Abstract: 1448464 Melamine-formaldehyde moulding compositions containing alumina hydrate STANDARD OIL CO 14 Nov 1973 [8 Dec 1972] 52801/73 Heading C3R A melamine-formaldehyde moulding composition contains 10-900 parts by weight of alumina hydrate per hundred of resin (phr), a curing catalyst for the resin, and a mould release agent. Preferably it contains 5-70 phr of cellulose when the alumina hydrate is 10-200 phr. Suitable resins are those of M : F ratio 1 : 1-3. In Fhamptes 2-5 "popcorn" is obtained by adding 340, 570 or 900 phr of alumina hydrate to an MF resin syrup or spray-dried powder, or to the melamine before condensing it with formaldehyde, the M : F ratio being 0À45 : 1 in all cases. The "popcorn" is compounded with zinc stearate, TiO 2 , phthalic anhydride and unspecified colorants and flow and release additives to give moulding compositions.
