Abstract: Nitrile barrier resin latexes which contain a water soluble polymer comprising polyvinyl pyrrolidone which has an intrinsic viscosity greater than 0.75 dl/gm constitute especially effective compositions for coating various substrates. The coating composition comprises (1) a water soluble polymer comprising polyvinyl pyrrolidone which has an intrinsic viscosity greater than 0.75 gl/gm and (2) a latex produced by the polymerization of a major proportion of a monounsaturated nitrile and a minor proportion of at least one monovinyl monomer component copolymerizable therewith optionaily in the presence of a preformed diene rubber. … The composition is made by blending and coatings are formed by drying.
