Abstract: The lead 34 of a component 10, such as a reed switch, is bent round to form a foot portion 58 transverse to the axis of the component. This is used to surface mount the component on a PCB. The lead may have a number of flat portions (see figures 6 and 7) to allow the component to be mounted in a variety of orientations.
