Abstract: A method of forming a dome from a substantially round blank having a surface area smaller than the surface area of the dome includes the steps of shear forming the blank (30) on a rotatable flat-nosed conical mandrel (31) to form a deformed blank (35), spin stretching the deformed blank in selected areas along its circumference to form a stretched blank (40), inside spinning the stretched blank into a rough dome (42) within a concave dome mandrel (41), and finish spinning the rough dome on a rotatable convex dome mandrel (51) into the finished dome (53). Predetermined portions of the blank are heated in each forming step.
