Abstract:
A first aspect of the invention relates to a luminescent object comprising an aligned polymer that contains an oriented photoluminescent material, said aligned polymer having a pretilt angle of 10-90º. The luminescent object according to the present invention may advantageously be employed in luminescent solar concentrator systems as it enables highly efficient transportation of radiation emitted by the photoluminescent material following exposure to incident solar light. Another aspect of the invention concerns a photovoltaic device comprising an electromagnetic radiation collection medium containing the aforementioned luminescent object and a photovoltaic cell capable of converting optical radiation to electrical energy which is optically coupled to the luminescent object. Further aspects of the invention include a fluorescent light activated display and a room lighting system comprising the aforementioned luminescent object.

A first aspect of the invention relates to a luminescent object comprising: a. a luminescent layer or core containing a photoluminescent material; and b. a wavelength-selective mirror; wherein the luminescent layer or luminescent core is optically coupled to the wavelength-selective mirror, said wavelength-selective mirror being at least 50% transparent to light absorbed by the photoluminescent material and at least 50% reflective to radiation that is emitted by the photoluminescent material. Uso de un objeto luminiscente como dispositivo concentrador solar luminiscente, comprendiendo el objeto luminiscente un material laminado óptico o una fibra óptica que comprende: a una capa o núcleo (1) luminiscente que contiene un material fotoluminiscente; b un espejo (7, 8) selectivo en longitud de onda; y c una guía (2) de ondas; en el que la capa luminiscente o el núcleo (1) luminiscente está acoplado ópticamente al espejo (7, 8) selectivo en longitud de onda, siendo dicho espejo selectivo en longitud de onda transparente en al menos el 50% a la luz absorbida por el material fotoluminiscente y reflectante en al menos el 50% a la radiación que se emite por el material fotoluminiscente, en el que el espejo (7, 8) selectivo en longitud de onda comprende una capa colestérica de polímero nemático quiral, en el que la reflectividad del espejo selectivo en longitud de onda para la radiación emitida por el material fotoluminiscente supera la reflectividad del mismo espejo para la radiación óptica absorbida por dicho material fotoluminiscente en al menos el 50%, en el que el material fotoluminiscente está dispuesto para excitarse por la radiación incidente y emitir radiación óptica, la guía (2) de ondas está dispuesta para permitir la entrada de radiación emitida y para transportar la radiación que ha entrado hasta una salida, salida que está acoplada ópticamente a una celda (13) fotovoltaica y el espejo selectivo en longitud de onda está dispuesto para reflejar la radiación emitida que vuelve a entrar en la capa o núcleo luminiscente de vuelta a la guía (2) de ondas.
