Abstract: A vehicle navigation system (1) is described, comprising antenna means (3), preferably comprising a GPS antenna, output means for notifying guide advices (24) to the vehicle driver and comprising a display (6), memory means (5) encompassing a navigation database (16) with electronic maps stored within, and an electronic controller (2). The system (1) is capable to detect the global position of the vehicle on the basis of the electromagnetic waves received by the antenna means (3), associate the global position to the exact road position of the vehicle by comparison with the electronic maps (16) and notify pictorial guide advices (24) to the vehicle driver according to the road position by means of the display (6).
The system is characterized in comprising a digital camera (4) installed on the vehicle and able to record digital pictures (25) from outsides and to provide the digital pictures (25) to the electronic controller (2); the pictures (25) are displayed by means of the display (6); preferably, pictorial guide advices (24), among which directional arrows (24) are encompassed, are overprinted to the pictures (25) displayed.
