Abstract: The autoloader (100) for magnetic tape cartridges (20-29) uses a companion autoloader magazine (11) that holds a plurality of preloaded magnetic tape cartridges (20-29) to individually access any one of the plurality of magnetic tape cartridges (20-29) held by the magazine (11). The autoloader (100) of the present invention is able to move an associated magazine (11) containing a plurality of preloaded magnetic tape cartridges (20-29) in a vertical direction, either up or down, such that the autoloader (100) is able to selectively access any one of the plurality of magnetic tape cartridges (20-29) loaded in the magazine (11). The autoloader (100) contains only two motors: one (113) for controlling the vertical motion of the magazine (11), one (121) for loading a magnetic tape cartridge (20) from the magazine (11) into the associated tape drive (10). The width of the autoloader (100) is equal to or less than the width of the associated tape drive (10) so that two autoloader-tape drive units can be mounted side by side.

Abstract: Le chargeur automatique (100) pour cassette à bande magnétique (20-29) utilise un magasin (11) associé au chargeur automatique qui peut contenir plusieurs cassettes (20-29) à bande magnétique préchargées de manière à avoir accès à ces cassettes (20-29), individuellement, contenues dans le magasin (11). Le chargeur automatique (100) de la présente invention permet de déplacer un magasin associé (11) contenant plusieurs cassettes (20-29) à bande magnétique préchargées dans une direction verticale, soit vers le haut soit vers le bas, de sorte que le chargeur automatique (100) permet l'accès sélectif à l'une quelconque des plusieurs cassettes à bande magnétique (20-29) chargées dans le magasin (11). Le chargeur automatique (100) contient uniquement deux moteurs: l'un (113) permet de commander le mouvement vertical du magasin (11), et l'autre (121) permet de charger une cassette à bande magnétique (20) du magasin (11) à l'unité associée (10) d'entraînement de la bande magnétique. La largeur du chargeur automatique (100) est égale ou inférieure à la largeur de l'unité d'entraînement associée (10) de la bande magnétique de sorte que deux unités, à savoir chargeur automatique et unité d'entraînement de la bande, peuvent être montées côte à côte.
