Abstract: The present invention provides a novel telecommunication architecture. The architecture includes a subscriber agent for each subscriber within a telecommunication network. The subscriber agent includes the subscriber's telephone number and calling features. The network also includes terminal agents which are directly associated with one or more terminals such as telephones. The subscriber agent can be associated with one or more terminal agents within the network, so that the subscriber's telephone number and set of calling features can be carried to any terminal within the network. A wide variety of calling features and terminals are supported by the architecture.

Abstract: The present invention provides a novel system, method and apparatus for managing voicemails over a wireless local loop. The system provides for the placement of a voicemail client local to the subscriber and a voicemail server at the base station. The voicemail server and voicemail client cooperate with the base station to determine appropriate times to transfer voicemails over the WLL and thereby free- up bandwidth on the WLL for higher priority traffic, such as voice calls. Another embodiment of the invention provides a method for receiving voicemails utilizing the system. Y et another embodiment provides a method for delivery of voicemails from a caller to destination subscriber. Various prioritization criteria can be used to provided desired utilization of bandwidth.

Abstract: The present invention relates generally to telecommunications, and more specifically, to a system and method of managing telecommunication connections. In telephony, the set up, maintenance and tear down of communications is implemented in a very inflexible and predetermined manner which impedes the addition of new features. The Internet is generally used as a simple transport network that is insensitive to performance requirements and therefore is a hindrance to high bandwidth services. The invention provides a system for managing connections which employs a proxy for each entity in the communication including each user and each telecommunication network. This allows a communication to be established with consideration for the resources available to each entity, in their respective limitations. This allows new services to be implemented over multiple networks, with the assurance that the necessary bandwidth and other resources will be available.

Abstract: A wireless local loop system manages radio bandwidth shared by a plurality of subscriber stations by considering the type of connections desired to be created to the subscriber stations and the radio bandwidth, and in some cases QoS parameters, required for those connections. The subscriber stations include data and telephony ports and can include a subscriber utilization client (SUC) to assist in the management process. The SUC in each subscriber statio n communicates with a network utilization manager (NUM) to request network resources from the base station. The NUM determines the requirements, in bandwidth and/or QoS levels, for the desired connection and considers the utilization of the network resources at the base station, or sector of t he base station, in determining whether to establish the desired connection. The NUM can consider required a nd desired bandwidths and/or QoS levels and allocate resources for the connection according to either level, or therebetween. The SUC and NUM can prioritize the establishment of connections on an appropriate basis, including the type of connection, the parties to the connection, the revenue potential of the connection and the port for the connection at the subscriber station.
