    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled copolymer excellent in impact resistance, etc., and good in hue, by copolymerizing an aliphatic polyester-based, specified polyester prepolymer with a lactam in the presence of an anion polymerization catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A polyester prepolymer is prepared by reacting an aliphatic polyester having at least two terminal hydroxyl groups [e.g., poly(epsilon-caprolactone)] with an N-chlorocarbonyllactam (e.g., N-chlorocarbonylcaprolactam). The obtained polyester prepolymer is reacted with a lactam (e.g., epsilon-caprolactam) in the presence of an anion polymerization catalyst (e.g., sodium hydroxide) to obtain the titled copolymer of the formula, wherein R is an at least bivalent hydrocarbon, R and R are each an aliphatic hydrocarbon, E is an aliphatic polyester, m is a natural number, k is 1 or 0, and p>=2.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:A star-shaped polyether prepolymer, obtained by reacting a star-shaped polyoxyalkylene with an N-chlorocarbonyllactam, and capable of being a star block copolymers having various sizes and shapes and high impact and heat resistance. CONSTITUTION:A star-shaped polyether prepolymer expressed by formula I (R is tri- or polyvalent polyhydric alcohol residue or polyfunctional amino compound residue having 3 or more H atoms bonded to N atom; R and R are aliphatic hydrocarbon residue; n is a natural number; p is an integer >=3). The above- mentioned prepolymer is obtained by reacting a star-shaped polyoxyalkylene, expressed by formula II, and having terminal 3 or more hydroxy groups with an N-chlorocarbonyllactam expressed by formula III. The star-shaped polyoxyalkylene has preferably 500-20,000 number-average molecular weight and 3 or more branches. N-chlorocarbonylcaprolactam etc., may be used as the above- mentioned lactam.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:A star block copolymer, obtained by copolymerizing a star-shaped polyether prepolymer with a lactam in the presence of an anionic polymerization catalyst, and having improved mechanical properties, e.g. impact resistance, and a good hue. The above-mentioned star block copolymer is obtained by copolymerizing a star-shaped polyether prepolymer, prepared by reacting a star-shaped polyoxyalkylene having 3 or more terminal hydroxy groups, and expressed by formula II with an N-chlorocarbonyllactam in the presence of an anionic polymerization catalyst.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain titled copolymer with excellent properties, colorable to any desired color since it is inherently colorless, by performing polymerization, using a basic catalyst, of lactam in the presence of terminal acylimidazole group-carrying matter. CONSTITUTION:The objective copolymer can be obtained by polymerization of (A) lactam, in the presence of (B) a matter having terminal acylimidazole group of formula (R1 is divalent hydrocarbon; R2 and R3 are each H, alkyl or aryl; R4 is divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon; m>=2; l>=1) using (C) a basic lactam polymerization catalyst (e.g. alkali metal). The component (B) can be prepared, for example, by the reaction between (1) polyether diol such as polypropylene glycol and (2) divalent carboxylic acid imidazolide such as isophthaloyl bisimidazolide. EFFECT:Providing articles with extremely bright color.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To recover the by-produced organic acids from the oxidized liquid obtained by the oxidation of cycloalkanes, in high recovery, suppressing the formation and accumulation of polymerized products, by a simple process, by extracting the acid with an alkali solution in an amount necessary to neutralize the specific ratio of the total organic acids. CONSTITUTION:Cycloalkanes, are oxidized with oxygen or oxygen-containing gas, and the by-produced organic acids in the oxidized products are extracted with an alkaline solution. The amount of the alkali is 0.1-50%, pref. 0.5-30% of the amount necessary to neutralize the whole organic acids. EFFECT:The content of free organic acids in the extract is remarkably increased.

CONSTITUTION:An aliphatic polyester having OH groups on at least two terminals, of formula I [wherein R is at least two hydrocarbon residues, E is an aliphatic polyester residue of formula II (wherein R is a 2C or higher aliphatic residue, and n is a natural number)] or of formula III (wherein R and R are each a 2C or higher aliphatic residue, and m is a natural number), e.g., poly(epsilon- caprolactone), with an N-chlorocarbonyllactam of formula IV (wherein R is a 1-12C aliphatic hydrocarbon residue), e.g., N-chlorocarbonylcaprolactam) to produce a polyester prepolymer of formula IV (wherein R , R , E, and P are each as defined above). This polymer is mixed with a lactam or an anion polymerization catalyst and fed to a step of anion block copolymerization.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a Grignard salt of lactam useful as a basic catalyst and a reagent for various reactions by one reaction operation safely, by reacting a metal Mg with an alkyl halide or an aryl halide and a lactam. CONSTITUTION:A lactam shown by the formula I (R is 3-11C aliphatic hydrocarbon residue) is reacted with metal Mg and an alkyl halide or an aryl halide at -15-120 deg.C, to give a compound shown by the formula II (n is 3-11; Y is Cl, Br, or I). Metal Mg having a small amount of oxidized film on the surface and >=90% purity is preferable as the metal Mg, and it is preferably in the form such as flake, powder, etc. having large specific surface area. A monohalogenated hydrocarbon is preferably used as the halogenated hydrocarbon, and its amount used is 1.0-1.5mol based on 1mol metal Mg. An amount of the lactam used is 0.9-5mol based on 1mol metal Mg. The reaction is carried out in a solvent such as THF, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce the titled copolymer of excellent impact resistance, by the anion block copolymerization of a lactam in the presence of a specified prepolymer with the aid of an anion polymerization catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A mixture is obtained by mixing a prepolymer of the formula (wherein R1 and R2 are each a hydrocarbon residue, R3 is a polyoxyalkylene, R4 and R5 are each H, a hydrocarbon residue or R4 and R5 may be joined together, 1>=3, and n>=1) with a lactam (e.g., epsilon-caprolactam) and an anion polymerization catalyst (e.g., phenylmagnesium bromide) at a temperature which is higher than the m.p. of the lactam but is lower than the temperature at which polymerization occurs. The mixture is heated to 50-200 deg.C to effect anion block copolymerization. In this way, the titled copolymer having high impact resistance can be obtained. It can be used in the production of, for example, fibers, foams, and paints.
