Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain epsilon-caprolactam in extremely high selectively from cyclohexanonoxime in a vapor phase in the presence of a solid catalyst under the coexitence of epsilon-caprolactam in the reaction system. CONSTITUTION:epsilon-Caprolactam is obtained by catalytic reaction of cyclohexaboboxime in a vapor phase in the presence of a solid catalyst like crystalline silica. In this process, epsilon-caprolactam as the final product is made to coexist in the reactional system at the molar ratio, of pref. 0.1-0.8 or so based on the cyclohexanonoxime to be fed. Besides the epsilon-caprolactam, it is preferable that an alcohol such as methanol or ethanol or an other compound such as dimethyl ether be made to coexist in the reactional system. By this method, even under such a condition as to be high in the conversion rate of the cyclohexanonoxime, the objective epsilon-caprolactam can be produced in extremely high selectivity; in addition, the working life of the catalyst can significantly be improved.
