Abstract: The present invention provides a semiconductor package allowing a semiconductor chip to be operated accurately and with high stability over a long period by effectively transferring the heat generated during the operation of the semiconductor chip to a heat sink. A package for housing a semiconductor chip comprises a substrate 2 having on the upper surface thereof a mounting space where a semiconductor chip 1 is to be mounted, a frame 3 being provided so as to surround the mounting space on the upper surface of the substrate 2 and having a joint 3a for an input/output terminal 5 on the side, and an input/output terminal 5 connected to the joint 3a, wherein the substrate 2, or part of the substrate 2, or the substrate 2 and the frame 3, or part of the substrate and the frame is formed from a metal- diamond composite in which a matrix material having diamond particles joined via a metal carbide is infiltrated with a copper and/or silver or a metal- diamond sintered body composed of diamond particles and copper. Further, the surface of the metal-diamond composite is plated with gold.

Abstract: A filter capable of performing collection of organic materials, bacteria, viruses and other hazardous materials and sterilization/decomposition of collected matter at low cost with extremely high efficiency; and a process f or producing the same. In particular, a porous semiconductor constituted of a semiconductor material capable of light emission is formed inside or on the surface of a porous ceramic or metal as a substrate. Electrodes are fitted thereto to thereby obtain a filter. Fluid is filtered while applying voltage so as to emit ultraviolet radiation. Thus, sterilization/decomposition of hazardous materials, etc. can be performed simultaneously with the filtratio n thereof.

Abstract: A ceramics porous body having excellent acid resistance and alkali resistance as well as excellent mechanical strength and durability which can be employed as a filter or a catalytic carrier is provided. A silicon nitride porous body contains a plurality of silicon nitride crystal grains with pores formed in grain boundary parts thereof, or comprises a body part and a pore part so that the body part is formed by a plurality of silicon nitride crystal grains and the pore part forms a three-dimensional network structure. The body part is formed by at least 90 vol. % of silicon nitride crystal grains, which are directly bonded to each other for forming the body part. The porous body which is mainly composed of silicon nitride is brought into contact with an acid and/or an alkali so that a component other than silicon nitride is partially or entirely dissolved and removed, thereby preparing a porous body.

Abstract: A ceramic porous body for a filter or a catalyst carrier, having a structure in which voids each having the same volume as that of a sphere of 10 mu m to 500 mu m in diameter are formed and the voids are communicated with each other through smaller fine pores, the ceramic porous body having a volume fraction of the voids and the fine pores of from 15% to 60% and being formed of components 70% or higher by volume of which is silicon nitride. The ceramic porous body is prepared by mixing coarse silicon nitride powder with fine silicon nitride powder(s) at a mixing ratio by volume of the fine silicon nitride powder to the combined volume of the fine and coarse silicon nitride powders in the range of 1/99 to 1/2; adding one or more compounds of the group IIa elements, the group IIIa elements, transition metals, Al and Si in a range of 1% to 30% by volume as their oxides to the silicon nitride powder mixture; molding the resultant powder mixture; and sintering the molded body in a non-oxidizing atmosphere of at least 0.9 atm at a temperature ranging from 1100 DEG C to 2000 DEG C.

Abstract: Disclosed is fiber-reinforced composites having a gradient function having an excellent mechanical strength characteristic, good oxidation-resistance and good fracture toughness even at high temperatures not lower than 1500 DEG C. The fiber-reinforced composite according to the present invention includes: a base formed of carbon-fiber reinforced composites having a good mechanical strength characteristic and good fracture toughness; and a surface portion covering the base and formed of ceramic-fiber reinforced composites having good oxidation-resistance, wherein the carbon content rate of the base decreases almost successively from a central portion of the base to an interface portion of the base and the surface portion. This results in the fiber-reinforced composite which has good oxidation-resistance, a good mechanical strength characteristic and good fracture toughness even at high temperatures not lower than 1500 DEG C and in which an abrupt change in respective thermal expansion coefficients of the base and the surface portion in the interface therebetween is reduced by its gradient composition.

Abstract: A surface light-emitting device is provided wherein a catalytic reaction can be efficiently performed without the use of an ultraviolet lamp, an ultraviolet LED, or another such external ultraviolet light source, even in the case of a highly UV-absorbing contaminated fluid that cannot be treated with an external light source. Another object is to provide a ceramic filter that can be easily manufactured at low cost, is provided with a photocatalyst, and has a function for decomposing organic matter or for sterilizing bacteria and viruses. The present invention provides a surface light-emitting device having a surface emitter which has a function for emitting visible light or ultraviolet light by electroluminescence, and also having multiple through-holes formed as channels for a fluid in a direction orthogonal to the surface of the surface emitter. The present invention also provides an optically assisted ceramic filter composed of a ceramic filter having multiple channels, and a photocatalytic layer and surface emitter disposed on a side surface of the ceramic filter.
