Abstract:
A method of decoding the barcode in a form with a barcode reading arrangement. The barcode reading arrangement comprises a solid-state imager. The method includes capturing an image of a form having a barcode with a barcode reading arrangement, storing the image of the form captured by the solid-state imager to a memory, and finding a reference box in the image of the form by traversing one of connected lines and connected edges in the image of the form. The method also includes processing the image of the form to improve the image of the form by transforming the reference box to a rectangle, and processing an image of the barcode in the rectangle for decoding the barcode.
Abstract:
Age is verified by electro-optically reading the date of birth in a machine-readable format on a target, and by comparing the date of birth with a current date or a latest acceptable date. An output signal is generated when the date of birth and the date differ by a predetermined time period.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for improving direct part mark dataform decoding using a scanner comprising a processing unit, an optical module and an imaging sensor with an extended dynamic range. The scanner captures data to obtain an extended dynamic range image for analysis. In one embodiment, the sensor is sensitive to more than eight bits per pixel and in other embodiments multiple exposures are taken. Further in alternate embodiments, the scanner comprises a pass-band filter that passes the light emitted by an illumination module.
Abstract:
Method and apparatus of detecting orientation of document using a barcode decoding. The method includes (1) capturing an image of the document with an imaging arrangement having a solid-state imager; (2) determining a presence of a barcode in the captured image of the document; (3) decoding the barcode; (4) determining an up-direction of the document as a function of an orientation of the barcode in the document; and (5) setting an orientation of the document in the captured image based upon the up-direction of the document. In one implementation, the barcode is configured with orientation data indicating the up-direction of the document.
Abstract:
An illumination apparatus for an imaging-based bar code reader having a field of view defined by an imaging system of the bar code reader directed toward a target bar code. The illumination apparatus includes: a collector cup comprising a compound parabolic concentrator and defining a longitudinal axis; an illumination source positioned to direct illumination toward a first end of the collector cup, the collector cup directing illumination from the illumination source toward a second end of the collector cup; a first lens array positioned at the second end of the collector cup orthogonal to the collector cup longitudinal axis to receive and focus illumination from the collector cup and a second lens array orthogonal to the collector cup longitudinal axis receiving focused illumination from the first lens array. The lens arrays combining to focus illumination from the collector cup into an illumination pattern.
Abstract:
A method of identifying or authenticating a product by providing an analog identification indicium including a randomized pattern of identification features on a first part of the product wherein one or more attributes of the randomized pattern of identification features correspond to an item identifier. A digital identification record is provided on a second part of the product including an encoded digital version of the item identifier, the first and second parts being separable when the product is used. The randomized pattern of identification features of the analog identification indicium is read and decoded to generate an item identifier and the digital identification record is read and decoded to generate an item identifier. If a special light source is necessary to read the randomized pattern of identification feature, a flag is present in the analog identification indicium or the digital identification record that indicates one or more types of light sources that can be used to read the identification feature. The appropriate light source is activated to read the identification feature and if the appropriate light source is not available the user is alerted to this fact. The product is deemed authentic if the item identifier from the analog identification indicium substantially matches the item identifier from the digital identification record.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for illuminating objects comprising asymmetrically illuminating an object using an illumination medium on one side of an optical module of an information capturing module, capturing an electronic representation of the object and decoding the electronic representation of said object. In alternate embodiments, the scanner successively illuminates the object from a plurality of different angles until the object and/or dataform is decoded. The illumination medium can be external to the information capturing module.
Abstract:
An arrangement for, and a method of, electro-optically reading different types of targets by image capture, include an imaging assembly for capturing an image of a target over a field of view, and a controller for automatically distinguishing between the different types of targets, for decoding a symbol if the target being imaged is a symbol target, and for identifying and processing individual fields on a form if the target being imaged is a form target.
Abstract:
A barcode reader having a light source illuminating a barcode, a diffuser disposed between the light source and the barcode, a camera opening at least partially surrounded by the diffuser, light reflected from the barcode passing through the camera opening and a camera oriented to acquire light reflected from the barcode after passing through the diffuser from the light source.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for direct part mark scanning where a scanner operator is provided with a scanner comprising a slanted front end. The slanted front comprises a window for a scan module, such as, for example a camera, and an illumination module. The slanted front guides a user to tilt the scanner when scanning dataforms. Additionally, the internal scan module can be positioned to view a target dataform at an angle, even when the object being scanned is not tilted with regard to the scanner body.
