Abstract: PURPOSE: To prevent bar code symbols from being unreadable by substituting illegal characters in a first expression with elements of corresponding characters in a second expression. CONSTITUTION: First, first and second original conversion images showing first and second analog scan signals are preserved. Thereafter, the second original conversion image is used to correct, namely, improve the first original conversion image, thereby generating a first corrected, namely, improved conversion image. With respect to correction of a distorted original conversion image, at least one element of a distorted character in the first distorted conversion image is changed based on at least one element of a corresponding character of the second original conversion image to generate the first corrected conversion image, thereby correcting the distorted original conversion image. Thus, all bar code symbols are accurately decoded from this first corrected conversion image, and they are prevented from being unreadable.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide an analog waveform decoder which can surely and efficiently decode high-density bar code symbols. CONSTITUTION: Software executed in the analog waveform decoder discriminates a decodable part of an analog waveform first. Then, the decodable part is processed to obtain plural waveform descriptors defining the decodable part. Then, a high-density decoding process is performed for one or more of the waveform descriptors to generate a 1st decoded signal representing information included in the high-density bar code symbols. In case of a failure in the decoding process, an undecoded signal is generated. According to the undecoded signal, a low-density processing is performed to generate a 2nd decoded signal representing information included in low-density symbols. One of the 1st and 2nd decoded signals is outputted from the analog waveform decoder.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To prevent read incapability by making a series of characters present at the end position of one character string and a series of the characters present at the start position of the other character string be the same and preparing a new first character string. CONSTITUTION: A symbol is scanned along a first scanning route, the expression of the characters obtained from scanning is preserved and a first character string is prepared. The symbol is scanned along a second scanning route, the expression of the characters obtained from the scanning is preserved and a second character string is prepared. Then, the first character string and the second character string are processed by making the partial character string of the first character string be the same as the partial character string of the second character string and a long character string is prepared. Then, execution is repeatedly performed until all the characters of the long character string are correct characters and a complete symbol is constituted. Thus, the generation of the read incapability is prevented.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To protect security by determining sub sets for respective rows by a specified rule different from the rule specified for the row adjacent to the row and turning the respective rules to the function of the detectable characteristics of respective marks. CONSTITUTION: Different code word sub sets are used in the different rows and the respective sub sets satisfy an identifier function standard. An identifier function is used so as to divide the 11400 pieces of mark patterns utilizable by the symbol display method into the three mark patterns respectively composed of the 929 pieces of code words. The identifier function can adopt the various widths of the marks (optically detectable bars and spaces for instance) of ON and OFF of the mark patterns as input and supply the number of 0-8 as output. Thus, the security is protected.
