An antenna module includes a multilayer board, a radio frequency (RF) chip, and a first active device array. The multilayer board includes an antenna that transmits and receives electromagnetic waves. The RF chip is on a bottom surface of the multilayer board, and includes transmission circuits each of which constitutes a part of each of transmission paths for generating RF signals to be provided to the antenna. The first active device array is on the bottom surface of the multilayer board, and includes a first group of active devices respectively included in a portion of power amplifiers in the transmission paths of the transmission circuits, and first input pins and first output pins respectively connected to electrodes of the first group of active devices.

At least part of the side member and/or the back cover includes a conductive material. The handheld electronic device includes first and second connection terminals electrically connected to the at least part. The at least part forms at least part of an antenna of the handheld electronic device, and comprises first and second areas which are spaced apart from each other. The first area is electrically connected to the second area and the first connection terminal.

Disclosed is an antenna module which includes a printed circuit board, a first antenna group including first and second sensing antennas disposed on a first surface of the printed circuit board and transmitting and receiving a first signal, a second antenna including antenna elements disposed on the first surface between the first and second sensing antennas, and a processor coupled to the printed circuit board, the first antenna group, and the second antenna group. The processor obtains information about a distance between an external object and the antenna module, based on the first signal transmitted and received through the first antenna group and transmits a second signal through the second antenna group with a first transmit power less than or equal to a first maximum power set to correspond to the first distance when the external object is within a first distance from the antenna module.
