    Abstract: PURPOSE:To make a cathode-ray tube thin by decreasing the space occupied by a deflection means by making, in this invention especially, the thickness of a deflection york constituting a second deflection system small by carrying out both horizontal and vertical deflections by means of the same second deflection system. CONSTITUTION:The second deflection system, which horizontally and vetically deflects electron beams discharged from an electron gun 4, is constituted between the locations of an electron gun 4 and a fluorescent screen 2. A horizontal-vertical-deflection means 6 carries out, for example, a horizontal deflection of a relatively large deflection angle through an electromagnetic deflection, and carries out the vertical deflection through an electrostatic deflection by using, for example, a pair of inner ball pieces used as an electromagnetic horizontal deflection also as an electrostatic deflecting plate. In this invention, the total thickness of a deflection york 20 can be decreased by making the thickness (D1) of the york 20 equal to the thickness (d1) of the plate-like core.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To feed a normal distortion compensation signal voltage by applying an oxidation resistant coating with good conductivity to a contact which gets into contact with and feeds the distortion compensation signal voltage to an electrostatic deflection plate. CONSTITUTION:A circular distortion compensation signal voltage is fed from an elastic feed contact 17 to one deflection plate 9a of vertical electrostatic deflection plates 9a, 9b which also serve as pole pieces for horizontal electrostatic deflection of a flat type CRT. The contact 17 is made of an elastic metal plate with good conductivity such as Inconel by being cold punched and bent, and an oxidation resistant metal coating with good conductivity such as gold plating, nickel plating, or a paint film of nickel paste is applied to a contact section with the deflection plate 9a. Thereby, an increase of a contact resistance can be avoided, and a normal compensation signal voltage with no phase distortion can be fed.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To secure the regulated location of a vertical electrostatic deflecting electrode by fixing a pair of insulating plates in given positions on the inner wall of the plate part of a funnel for a thin cathode-ray tube, along the directions of tube axes, and fusing the end surfaces of the vertical electrostatic deflecting electrode to the former insulating pltes by use of glass so as to make the electrode to be supported with the plates. CONSTITUTION:Coupling insulating plates 13A and 13B made of ceramics are fixed to the inner surface of a plate part 1b1 of a funnel for a thin cathode-ray tube by use of glass frit 52. The plates 13A and 13B are attached to the part 1b1 so that they are located along the directions of tube axes, and that the distance between them near a fluorescent surface is larger than the distance between them distant from the fluorescent surface. After a pair of vertical electrostatic deflecting electrodes 9a and 9b are placed between the plates 13A and 13B, the electrodes 9a and 9b are fused to the plates 13A and 13B by pouring a glass 51 between them. By the above mentioned means the electrodes 9a and 9b can be securely installed in given positions.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To effectively correct the distortion of a beam spot by forming a focussing lens system which weakens the degree of reduction related to the beam that makes landing in the range farther from an electron gun among the beams which are emitted from the electron gun and advance toward the main deflection system. CONSTITUTION:An end face plate 8 is provided on the end of electron gun 2 which is opposed to its final stage electrode, namely the vertical deflection means 7 of the fourth grid G4 and an electron beam penetrating hole 8a is perforated in it. The diameter phi of this penetrating hole 8a is selected to almost the same to the gap, on the beam incidence side, between a pair of electrostatic deflection plates 7a and 7b of a vertical deflection means 7. The gap between the end face plate 8 and the means 7 is selected also almost equal to the gap (d) on the beam incidence side of both electrode plates 7a and 7b. Besides, target voltage V0, for example, 5KV is applied to the fourth gride G4. This can effectively correct the distortion of a beam spot and reproduce a good quality picture without any picture distortion, degradation of resolution, and color shift.

The image signal is sampled in correspondence with a picture element in horizontal direction or a control electrode 2 and each sampling signal is provided to each corresponding electrode 2.

After this, the clearance between the 1st and 2nd auxiliary index electrode stripes ID''1 and ID''2 and either clearance between strips adjoining index electrode strip ID1 are securely scanned.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce the power dissipation and to alleviate an arc distortion by forming a funnel-like electrode in one body with a back electrode so as to cover the region of a deflection system and by making a target electrode at a higher potential in relation to this electrode potential. CONSTITUTION:A funnel-like electrode 10 is formed in one body with a back electrode 3 in a flat type tube so that the funnel-like electrode 10 just covers the region of a deflection coil 6, and the tip of this funnel-like electrode 10 is further connected to the final grid 5a of an electron gun 5. On the other hand, a target electrode 2 is formed in the region of a phosphor screen 4 and on the internal wall face of the flat type tube 1 so that secondary electrons are absorbed by the target electrode 2 on the internal wall face and the target electrode is made at a higher potential than that of the final grid 5a. Thereby, the power dissipation can be reduced and the arc distortion can be alleviated.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To correct securely circular distortion and prevent generation of a striped raster by reducing the surface resistance of an especially needed part of a ferrite deflection plate in a usual CRT such as a television picture tube. CONSTITUTION:So far as the ferrite deflection plate 9a on one side concerns, low resistance layers 60 are formed on both its inner surface 9a1 and side end surface which makes contact with a free end of its metal contact piece 17 while both layers are connected to each other. Also, with regard to the ferrite deflection plate 9b on the other side low resistance layers 60 are formed on both its inner surface 9b and a front end surface which makes contact with a spring 12 mentioned before while both layers are connected to each other. When the surface specific resistance of the ferrite deflection plate is specified 200kOMEGAcm or less preferably 100kOMEGAcm or less, generation of a circular distortion or stripe can be prevented.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce the space and the power consumption by making the outer center pole of a second deflector and the inner pole piece/electrostatic deflecting board to be analogous while setting the ratio of the length and the width within specific range. CONSTITUTION:A phosphor face 2 and a back face electrode 3 are provided in a flat tube 1 to form first deflector while an electromagnetic and electrostatic second deflector 6 is formed between an electron gun 4 contained in a neck tube 1c and a flat space 10. While a magnetic core 7 made of ferrite for the second deflector 6 is formed by hexagonal core sections 16, 17 projected with outer center poles 16a, 17a for winding an electromagnetic coil 8, while the outer center poles 16a, 17a and the inner pole pieces 9a, 9b are made analogous with the width ratio of 1.5-3 and the length ratio of 1.1-1.4. Consequently the space to be occupied by the deflector can be reduced considerably.
