PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the security in transmission of key information from an information providing side to a user side and to surely specify the user. SOLUTION: An information providing device 200 side distributes an information medium having encrypted information to a user terminal 400 side, the information providing device 200 is connected to the user terminal 400 through a communication network, and the information providing device 200 and the user terminal 400 transmit and receive information through the communication network. The information providing device 200 uses a user ID and a password belonging to the user terminal 400 to encrypt the key information required to decrypt encrypted information of the information medium, and the user terminal 400 uses the user ID, the password and a reader ID to decrypt the encrypted key information transmitted from the information providing device 200. The information providing device 200 encrypts key information required for decrypting the encrypted information in the information medium, by using information such as an apparatus number of the user terminal 400 or a reading device ID. The user terminal 400 decrypts the encrypted key information transmitted from the information providing device 200 by using information such as the apparatus number of the user terminal 400 or the reading device ID, and further decrypts the encrypted information read out from the information medium by using the decrypted key information.

The input is enciphered by means of at least one of a sectoring circuit (13) used for processing the input data to generate recording signals, a scramble processing circuit (14), a header adding circuit (15), an error correcting/encoding circuit (16), a modulation circuit (17), and a synchronism adding circuit (18), and the enciphered signal is outputted. In addition to the key of the enciphering itself in the circuit, which circuit performs the processing, is also an enciphering key. Therefore, data are enciphered with a simple circuit structure and ciphered data are hardly deciphered.
Abstract:
An optical disk (D) has a first working area and a second working area having two recording formats. Encrypted data is recorded on the second working area. Encrypting key data is recorded on the first working area. The encrypting key data is used for decoding the encrypted data. This recording technique makes easy reproduction of the recorded data quite difficult. If data recorded on a bit-formed portion can be reproduced by any means, the data signal recorded on the optical disk cannot easily be reproduced.
