Abstract: L'invention concerne un silencieux (S1 ) destiné à équiper une ligne d'échappement (L) d'un moteur thermique (M), et qui comprend une ou plusieurs enveloppe(s) qui délimite(nt) trois volumes (1 a,1 b,2), dits amont (1 a), intermédiaire (1 b) et aval (2), traversés par une pluralité de conduits, dont : - un conduit d'alimentation (10) amenant les gaz d'échappement depuis le moteur (M) dans le volume intermédiaire (1 b) en traversant le volume amont (1 a), - un conduit de trajet dit « aller » (12) conduisant les gaz d'échappement depuis le volume intermédiaire (1 b) dans le volume aval (2), - un conduit de trajet dit « retour » (13) conduisant les gaz d'échappement depuis le volume aval (2) vers le volume amont (1 a) en traversant le volume intermédiaire (1 b), et - un conduit d'évacuation (14) conduisant les gaz d'échappement hors du silencieux, soit par un trajet dit « aller » depuis le volume amont (1 a) vers le volume aval (2) d'où il débouche vers l'extérieur, soit par un trajet dit « aller-retour » depuis le volume amont (1 a) vers le volume aval (2) puis à nouveau vers le volume amont (1 a) d'où il débouche vers l'extérieur.
