Abstract:
A method and apparatus for performing an operation on a structure. In one illustrative embodiment, an apparatus comprises a tool system (122) and a movement system (124). The tool system is configured to perform an operation at a location (130) on a structure (118). The movement system is configured to move the tool system along an elongate frame (116) on the structure to the location.
Abstract:
An illustrative example of the present disclosure provides a method. A first set of composite plies (224) including a first outer ply (225) of a first composite structure (208) is laid up. A first intermediate surface (207) of the first outer ply (225) is measured to form a first set of measurements (206). A laydown surface (212) for a tool path (214) of a composite placement machine (203) is modified to form a modified tool path (216), wherein modifying the laydown surface (212) comprises modifying the laydown surface (212) such that a laydown surface (217) of the modified tool path (216) matches the first set of measurements (206). A composite ply (218) is laid down using the composite placement machine (203) and the modified tool path (216).
Abstract:
Method for analyzing a surface quality of a laminate part includes the steps creating a planned dimensioned representation of a laminate part desired to be built which includes a first surface having a first topography, placing fibers into locations for the laminate part desired to be built, curing a resin associated with the placed fibers fabricating an as-built laminate part which includes a second surface having a second topography which corresponds to the first surface having the first topography, aligning the first surface, the second surface and the locations of the fibers, determining a first elevation of a first point on the first surface and a second elevation of a second point on the second surface, and observing the first surface, the second surface and the locations of the fibers in alignment and the first elevation relative to the second elevation in analyzing the surface quality of the laminate part.
Abstract:
A method of treating a tubular surface which defines an axis extending from a first surface end to a second surface end includes partially surrounding the tubular surface, at a first position, with a first set of treating units, with the treating units arranged in a first arcuate array. Furthermore, each treating unit is configured to include a plurality of first applicator heads. Additionally, an embodiment of the method includes determining a position of each of the plurality of first applicator heads relative to the tubular surface and moving the first set of treating units from the first position towards a second position. In one non-limiting example, the method further includes independently controlling each of the plurality of first applicator heads to selectively apply a first treatment as the first set of treating units moves from the first position towards the second position. (Fig. 2)
