A headbox comprises an inlet header, 12; a first flat section, 22, connected to the downstream end of the inlet header, and having an unobstructed flow channel in the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped; a plurality of hoses, 36, connected in a transverse row to the downstream end of said flat section; a plurality of expansion pipes, 40, connected in a transverse row respectively to the ends of the hoses, and each having a flow channel of increasing cross-section in the direction of stock flow, 60; a plurality of pipes, 48, of changing crosssection connected in a transverse row respectively to the downstream ends of the expansion pipes, the pipes of changing cross-section having circular cross-section at their upstream ends, and rectangular cross-section at its downstream end; a second flat section, 58, connected to the downstream ends of the pipes of changing cross-section, and having an unobstructed flow channel in the shape of a rectangular parallelopiped, and a nozzle connected to the downstream end of the second flat section. The nozzle of Specification 1,253,722 may be used.
