Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing potassium titanate aluminate whisker having a fine shape. SOLUTION: This method for producing potassium titanate aluminate whisker comprises heating at least one titanium supplying component selected from a particulate or fibrous titanium supplying component of the formula TiO2 .nH2 O ((n) is a real number of 0-8) and at least one aluminum supplying component selected from aluminum hydroxide, aluminum oxide hydrate, inorganic acid salt of aluminum and an alkali metal aluminate in the presence of a melting agent at 900-1,300 deg.C, further cooling and, reacting the components and growing potassium titanate. The melting agent is at least one selected from the group consisting of potassium chloride, potassium sulfate and potassium bromide.

SOLUTION: An aqueous suspension or solution containing 1-70wt.% of calcium hydroxide or a calcium salt and an aqueous solution containing 5-90wt.% of phosphoric acid or a phosphate salt are mixed so that the Ca/P molar ratio may meet 1.60-1.70, to effect their reaction at a pH of 6-8 and a temperature of 90-100 deg.C for 30 minutes to 8 hours to give hydroxyapatite having a half width of /g.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve heat resistance, chemical resistance, ion exchange ability, antimicrobial property, electrically insulating properties and neutron absorbing ability of a fibrous substance by coating the surface of a fibrous substance with aluminum borosulfate or aluminum borate. CONSTITUTION:One or more compounds selected from sulfuric acid salts of Al, hydroxides of Al, hydroxides of alkali metals, carbonic acid salts of alkali metals, aluminic acid salts of alkali metals, carbonic acid salts of ammonium and ammonium hydroxide are made to react in the presence of a fibrous substance such as fibrous alkali metal salt of titanic acid, a fibrous boric acid transition metal salt, a fibrous alkaline earth metal salt of boric acid or ZnO whisker in an equivalent ratio of 1:(4.5-6.0) at 5-80 deg.C for 1-5hr. Then, a boron compound is added thereto and the fibrous substance is made to react with the boron compound at 10-200 deg.C for 1-8hr and the reactional product is washed with water and dried to coat the surface of the fibrous substance with aluminum borosulfate or aluminum borate.
