    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a composition having excellent heat-resistance and remarkably high residential stability of mechanical and electrical characteristics, by compounding an aromatic polyester with a specific halogen-containing polymer and a glycidyl-containing copolymer. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition is produced by compounding (A) 100pts.(wt.) of an aromatic polyester with (B) 3-50pts. of a halogen-containing vinyl polymer having the recurring unit of formula (R is H or 1-5C alkyl; X is Cl or Br; m is 1-5) and (C) 1-20pts. of a glycidyl-containing copolymer composed of an alpha-olefin and an alpha,beta-unsaturated acid glycidyl ester. The component A is preferably a polybutylene terephthalate or polyethylene terephthalate having a relative viscosity of 1.3-1.85 at 25 deg.C as 0.5% o-chlorophenol solution. The component B is preferably poly(pentabromobenzyl acrylate) and the component C is preferably an ethylene/glycidyl methacrylate copolymer.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled composition with significantly improved thermal stability and residence stability for both mechanical and electrical properties, by incorporating an aromatic polyester with a combination of halogenated phenol polycondensate and a specific copolymer containing glycidyl group. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition can be obtained by incorporating (A) 100pts.wt. of an aromatic polyester with a relative viscosity 1.15-2.0 (e.g. polyethylene terephthalate) with (B) 3-50 (pref. 5-30)pts.wt. of a halogenated phenol polycondensate with a polymerization degree 3-100 prepared from a halogenated phenol of formula I (R is lower alkyl or H; X is Br or Cl; m is 0-4; n is 1-5), (C) 1-20 (pref. 3-15)pts.wt. of antimony trioxide and (D) 1-20 (pref. 2- 10)pts.wt. of a glycidyl group-contg. copolymer derived from an alpha-olefin (e.g. ethylene) and alpha,beta-unsaturated acid glycidyl ester of formula II (R is H or lower alkyl).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled film having high strength and high modulus of elasticity, by forming a copolymer polyester mainly composed of 4,4'-diphenyl dicarboxylic acid, isophthalic acid and ethylene glycol into a film, and bi-axially elongating the film. CONSTITUTION:A dicarboxylic component, comprising 25-75mol% of 4,4'- diphenyl carboxylic acid and 55-25mol% of isophthalic acid, is esterified or transesterified with a diol component mainly composed of ethylene glycol, and then the reaction product is subjected to ordinary polyester-polycondensation to prepare copolymerized polyester having intrinsic viscosity of 0.5-1.8. After the obtained copolymerized polyester is formed into a film, the film is bi-axially elongated in a manner such that its area magnification will be >=6 times. In this way, an objective polyester film is obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a polyester copolymer having high rigidity and heat resistance, and excellent color tone, by the esterification reaction of a dicarboxylic acid component containing diphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid with a diol component in the presence of K and/or Na compounds. CONSTITUTION:The esterification reaction of a dicarboxylic acid component composed of 40-80mol% of diphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid and 60-20mol% of other aromatic dicarboxylic acid (or its ester-forming derivative) and a diol component composed of an alkylene glycol, is carried out in the presence of 10-350ppm, pref. 20-200ppm of K and/or Na compounds (as K and/or Na atom based on diphenyl- 4,4'-dicarboxylic acid) at a molar ratio of the diol component to the dicarboxylic acid component of 1.2-2.0, and the esterification product is subjected to polycondensation to obtain the objective polyester.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a copolymerized polyester having rigidity, high heat resistance, and improved color tone efficiently, by esterifying a specific aromatic dicarboxylic acid component with an alkylene glycol, followed by polycondensation. CONSTITUTION:(A) An aromatic dicarboxylic acid component comprising 25- 80mol% 4,4'-diphenyldicarboxylic acid having an average longer diameter of particle of >=0.8mu is esterified with (B) an alkylene glycol (preferably ethylene glycol), and this esterified substance is subjected to polycondensation to give the desired polyester. The diphenylcarboxylic acid, for example, is preferably obtained by dissolving 4,4'-diphenyl-carboxylic acid in dimethyl sulfoxide, followed by purifying it through recrystallization, etc. Terephthalic acid, etc. is preferable as another acid component of the component A, etc. EFFECT:Slurry properties are improved, and esterification can be carried out in a short time stably and efficiently.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a copolyester having high rigidity, a high m.p., excellent heat resistance and good color, by esterifying a specified dicarboxylic acid with a specified alkylene glycol and polycondensing the resulting ester. CONSTITUTION:A reaction product, conversion to ester >=90%, is obtained by esterifying (A) a dicarboxylic acid consisting of 45-80mol% diphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid and 55-20mol% hexahydroterephthalic acid, cis content 30- 100mol%, with (B) an alkylene glycol such as ethylene glycol at a B/Amol ratio of 1.1-4.0 and a temperature of 220-280 deg.C in the presence of an esterification catalyst. Next, this reaction product is passed through a filter to remove foreign matters. Then, the filtered product is made to polymerize in the presence of a polycondensation catalyst; evacuation of the polymerization kettle is started when the kettle temperature reaches a range of 230-260 deg.C; and when a degree of vacuum of 1mm.Hg is reached, the polycondensation is continued at a kettle temperature in the range of 260-310 deg.C.

CONSTITUTION:The titled compsn. prepd. by incorporating (B) 1-70pts.wt. glycidyl group-contg. copolymer comprising alpha-olefin such as ethylene and alpha,beta- unsaturated acid glycidyl ester such as glycidyl methacrylate and (C) 0.01- 5pts.wt. thiodicarboxylic acid of the formula (wherein R is alkylene; R is alkyl) such as distearyl thiodipropionate in (A) 100pts.wt. arom. polyester such as polyethylene terephthalate. The compsn. can be molded easily by conventional methods such as injection or extrusion, and the molded product obtd. has excellent mechanical properties such as impact resistance and good resistance to deterioration by dry heat.
