    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a composition having excellent heat-resistance and remarkably high residential stability of mechanical and electrical characteristics, by compounding an aromatic polyester with a specific halogen-containing polymer and a glycidyl-containing copolymer. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition is produced by compounding (A) 100pts.(wt.) of an aromatic polyester with (B) 3-50pts. of a halogen-containing vinyl polymer having the recurring unit of formula (R is H or 1-5C alkyl; X is Cl or Br; m is 1-5) and (C) 1-20pts. of a glycidyl-containing copolymer composed of an alpha-olefin and an alpha,beta-unsaturated acid glycidyl ester. The component A is preferably a polybutylene terephthalate or polyethylene terephthalate having a relative viscosity of 1.3-1.85 at 25 deg.C as 0.5% o-chlorophenol solution. The component B is preferably poly(pentabromobenzyl acrylate) and the component C is preferably an ethylene/glycidyl methacrylate copolymer.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled composition with significantly improved thermal stability and residence stability for both mechanical and electrical properties, by incorporating an aromatic polyester with a combination of halogenated phenol polycondensate and a specific copolymer containing glycidyl group. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition can be obtained by incorporating (A) 100pts.wt. of an aromatic polyester with a relative viscosity 1.15-2.0 (e.g. polyethylene terephthalate) with (B) 3-50 (pref. 5-30)pts.wt. of a halogenated phenol polycondensate with a polymerization degree 3-100 prepared from a halogenated phenol of formula I (R is lower alkyl or H; X is Br or Cl; m is 0-4; n is 1-5), (C) 1-20 (pref. 3-15)pts.wt. of antimony trioxide and (D) 1-20 (pref. 2- 10)pts.wt. of a glycidyl group-contg. copolymer derived from an alpha-olefin (e.g. ethylene) and alpha,beta-unsaturated acid glycidyl ester of formula II (R is H or lower alkyl).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the mechanical properties, especially the shock resistance and the thermal cycle properties by adding a specified polyester to a blend of polybutylene terephthalate with TiO2 of a specified particle size when a molded article of the blend is plated after roughening the surface with an alkali soln. CONSTITUTION:To 100pts. polyester resin consisting of 97-50wt% polybutylene terephthalate (A) and 3-50wt% copolymerized polyester (B) contg. dicarboxylic acid is added 10-250pts. TiO2 of 1-6mum average particle size. A molded article of the thermoplastic polyester resin is plated after roughening the surface with an alkali soln. to obtain the titled molded article having superior bonding strength to a film formed by the plating, fine surface luster, superior mechanical properties and thermal cycle properties. The component B is a copolymer consisting of a component contg. about 3-50mol% aliphatic dicarboxylic acid and a diol component.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound in high yield, by reacting an alpha,omega- bis(phenoxy)alkane-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid which is a raw material for polyesters as a starting material with bromine in a solvent of a lower fatty acid and/or halogenated lower fatty acid. CONSTITUTION:An alpha,omega-bis(phenoxy)alkane-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid or an ester thereof is reacted with bromine in a 2-6C lower fatty acid, e.g. acetic acid or propionic acid, and/or a halogenated lower fatty acid, e.g. monochloroacetic acid, as a solvent to give an alpha,omega-bis(2-bromophenoxy)alkane-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid which is an aromatic dicarboxylic acid containing two bromine atoms linked to given positions of the benzene nucleus or an ester thereof. USE:A raw material for fiber-forming polyesters having a high elasticity and self- extinguishing characterisitcs.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To impart excellent isotropic mechanical properties to molded articles and to reduce their weight, by dispersing microballoon in an arom. polycondensate exhibiting optical anisotropy during melting or the formation of its soln. in the molding of said polycondensate. CONSTITUTION:5-75vol% microballoon such as alumina, silica, magnesia or Shirasu-balloon is dispersed in an arom. polycondensate exhibiting optical anisotropy such as an arom. polyester or an arom. polyamide during melting or the formation of its soln. Then the polycondensate is molded by means of extrusion, injection molding or pressing to obtain the desired liquid crystal polymer molding. By dispersing microballoon in the liquid crystal polymer, there is formed a structure where the polymeric molecular chain is highly oriented along the spherical surface of microballoon, and a three-dimensional orientation effect is exhibited. Hence, molded articles having excellent isotropic mechanical properties can be obtd.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled film having high strength and high modulus of elasticity, by forming a copolymer polyester mainly composed of 4,4'-diphenyl dicarboxylic acid, isophthalic acid and ethylene glycol into a film, and bi-axially elongating the film. CONSTITUTION:A dicarboxylic component, comprising 25-75mol% of 4,4'- diphenyl carboxylic acid and 55-25mol% of isophthalic acid, is esterified or transesterified with a diol component mainly composed of ethylene glycol, and then the reaction product is subjected to ordinary polyester-polycondensation to prepare copolymerized polyester having intrinsic viscosity of 0.5-1.8. After the obtained copolymerized polyester is formed into a film, the film is bi-axially elongated in a manner such that its area magnification will be >=6 times. In this way, an objective polyester film is obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a polyester copolymer having high rigidity and heat resistance, and excellent color tone, by the esterification reaction of a dicarboxylic acid component containing diphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid with a diol component in the presence of K and/or Na compounds. CONSTITUTION:The esterification reaction of a dicarboxylic acid component composed of 40-80mol% of diphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid and 60-20mol% of other aromatic dicarboxylic acid (or its ester-forming derivative) and a diol component composed of an alkylene glycol, is carried out in the presence of 10-350ppm, pref. 20-200ppm of K and/or Na compounds (as K and/or Na atom based on diphenyl- 4,4'-dicarboxylic acid) at a molar ratio of the diol component to the dicarboxylic acid component of 1.2-2.0, and the esterification product is subjected to polycondensation to obtain the objective polyester.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:The titled molding compound with excellent moldability, shape stability to heat, etc. obtd. by compounding a copolyester contg. polyethylene diphenyl-4, 4'-dicarboxylate units with a carbon fiber. CONSTITUTION:The purpose molding compound is obtd. by compounding a copolyester contg. 40-80mol% polyethylene-disphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylate units, obtd. from a disphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid, ethylene glycol, etc., with 5-50wt% carbon fiber of length >=0.05mm., and homogeneously blending the resulting compound by means of kneading by use of an extruder, etc. The molding compound obtd. is able to be used for injection, extrusion, etc. and to give a molded product with excellent mechanical property.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a polyester of high whiteness degree and uniform pigment dispersibility with reduced diethylene glycol content, by addition of a pigment after esterification, immediately followed by addition of ethylene glycol and then carrying out polycondensation under vacuum. CONSTITUTION:Bis-beta-hydroxyethylene terephthalate and/or its oligomer are(is) first prepared from terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol. Next, a pigment such as titanium dioxide, etc. is added, and then, within 10 minutes, ethylene glycol is added to the system in an amount of pref. 0.5-3wt% based on the polymer, immediately followed by carrying out polycondensation under vacuum to obtain the objective polyester.
