    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the need for complicated separation and recovery and to industrially advantageously provide an optically active phenyllactic acid without using a mixed solvent for crystallizing the optically active phenyllactic acid when diazotizing and hydrolyzing an optically active phenylalanine and obtaining the produced optically active phenyllactic acid. SOLUTION: The optically active phenylalanine is diazotized and hydrolyzed to obtain the resultant optically active phenyllactic acid. In the process, the optically active phenyllactic acid is crystallized from toluene solution and separated. The optically active phenylalanine is diazotized and hydrolyzed to extract the resultant reactional mixture containing the produced optically active phenyllactic acid with an organic solvent other than the toluene.     Abstract: PURPOSE: To carry out isomerization of an aromatic halide and lessen the loss by employing an acid type zeolite catalyst which is treated with boric acid trialkyl ester. CONSTITUTION: This acid type zeolite catalyst is produced by immersing and/or kneading an acid type zeolite with trialkyl borate. An aromatic halide is isomerized by bringing into contact with the acid type zeolite catalyst. As the acid type zeolite, any zeolite may be used, and a mordenite type zeolite, β-type zeolite, pentacyl-type zeolite, etc., are preferable. In the case of isomerization of dichlorotoluene, for example, a mordenite type zeolite is especially preferable. Not only a side reaction is suppressed to lessen the loss, but also selectively of the isomerization reaction is improved by employing the catalyst. Further, it is preferable that the trialkyl group of borate in the acid type zeolite is trimethyl and also rhenium is contained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To separate a high-purity ethyl phenol isomer in a high yield by using a specific adsorbent, adsorbing and separating a prescribed isomer useful as an intermediate for a medicine, a color coupler, etc., from an ethylphenol isomer mixture. CONSTITUTION: A prescribed ethylphenol isomer is adsorbed on and separated from (B) an ethylphenol isomer mixture by using (A) an X type zeolite adsorbent (e.g. containing a metal such as Li, K, Rb, Cs, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Pb, etc., and 1-10wt.% of water based on the adsorbent). For example, a mixture comprising m-ethylphenol (B1 ), p-ethylphenol (B2 ) and one or more alkyl phenols is used as the component B, the component B1 is adsorbed on and separated from the component B containing the component B1 , the component B2 and one or more alkylphenols by using the component B containing Mg, Ca or Sr and the component B2 is adsorbed on and separated from the component B by using the component B containing K or Ba.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To separate the subject isomer useful as a medicine intermediate, a color coupler or a polymer-modifying agent from an isomer mixture in a high purity and in a good yield by bringing the isomer mixture of an alkylphenol into contact with a specific adsorbent. CONSTITUTION: (A) An alkylphenol isomer mixture (e.g. an ethylphenol isomer mixture containing m-ethylphenol and p-ethylphenol) is brought into contact with (B) a lead-containing faujasite type zeolite adsorbent (e.g. a Y type zeolite adsorbent containing lead and calcium) to separate the objective isomer. A >=4C aliphatic alcohol is preferably used as a desorbing agent on the adsorption separation.

CONSTITUTION:An acylating agent of the formula: R -CO-X (R is an alkyl or aryl group; X is Cl, Br, OH, an alkoxy group or OCOR where R is an alkyl or an aryl group) and an aromatic compound of the formula: H-Ar-(R )m (H is hydrogen atom; Ar is a monocyclic, polycyclic or heterocyclic aromatic residue where the polycyclic aromatic residue is connected with direct bonds; R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group) are allowed to react in vapor phase with each other in the presence of a zeolite ion-exchanged with a metal ion whereby an acylated aromatic compound of the formula: R -CO-Ar-(R )m (R , R , Ar and (m) have the same meanings as stated above) is obtained.
