Abstract:
A polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) molded board reinforced with 15-85 wt. % of glass fibers (GF) having a length of at least 5 mm is provided. The molded board is useful as an insulating substrate of a printed circuit board. The printed circuit board is prepared by compressing under heating a mixture or laminate of PPS and GF to form a composite molded board and, at or after the compression step, bonding a metallic foil to a surface the composite molded board. The printed circuit board is excellent in mechanical properties such as impact resistance, thermal properties such as heat distortion temperature and solder resistance, and adhesion between the insulating substrate and the metallic foil.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing fiber-reinforced resin articles, the principal object being to manufacture such articles that exhibit excellent properties, at a high level of productivity. The molded articles of carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic resin are manufactured by forming a cloth-like body, comprising elongated carbon fibers, into a unitary body with a thermoplastic resin to obtain a composite sheet, shaping the composite sheet into a desired configuration at a temperature higher than the melting point or softening point, but lower than the decomposition temperature, of the thermoplastic resin, and cooling the resulting article Since the composite sheet is shaped into a three-dimensional structure at a suitable temperature, a high-productivity can be achieved in manufacturing fiber-reinforced resin molded articles that are light in weight and possess excellent mechanical properties such as an outstanding Young's modulus and modulus of elasticity.

PURPOSE:To mold fiber reinforced plastics continuously, by a method wherein a tiered-up matter of beltlike reinforcing fabric prepreg or reinforcing fabrics and a resin film having notches extending in the direction of width at desired pitches is molded so that the notches locate at the front and rear of a molding tool. CONSTITUTION:Fabric prepreg 2 is heated by a preheater 3 such as an infrared furnace or a hot air furnace while the fabric prepreg 2 is being moved forward. Then advance of the preheated fabric prepreg 2 is suspended at a point of time when the same has passed through a molding tool 4 and notches extending in the direction of its width are put to the same by cutters 5, 6 provided at the front and rear of the molding tool 4. Then the molding tool 4 is clamped under a state wherein the advance of the fabric prepreg 2 is suspended to mold fiber reinforced plastics in a desired form. When molding is completed, the molding tool 4 is broken, the fabric prepreg 2 is moved forward by distance a little longer than the pitch of notches 7, 8 and the molding is performed continuously by repeating this process similarly after this.

PURPOSE:To improve the impregnating property of resin by a method wherein organic solvent having affinity for the resin is mixed in the resin in the method to manufacture long fiber reinforced product by impregnating reinforcing fiber bundles with thermoplastic resin with high melt viscosity. CONSTITUTION:Reinforcing fiber bundles 1 are impregnated with resin by passing the reinforcing fiber bundles 1 through a resin bath 3 charged with resin composition consisting in mixing high melt viscosity resin such as polyamide- imide, polyether imide, polycarbonate or the like with solvent having affinity for said resin. A long body is formed by pressing said resin-impregnated reinforcing fiber bundles 5 with stainless steel endless belts 9 driven by heating rollers 6 respectively equipped with a heater 8 and cooling rollers 7 and further the solvent is evaporated at a hot air heating furnace 11 in order to turn into finished long body 13. The impregnating property of the resin is improved by utilizing the resin composition containing the solvent having affinity for the resin.
