Abstract: PURPOSE: To facilitate the protecting layer removing work when an optical fiber terminal is worked, and improve the handling property and mechanical protecting property by specifying the pistoning quantity of the optical fiber, and specifying the adhesion between a clad and a protecting layer. CONSTITUTION: A clad 2 is concentrically arranged on the outer circumference of a core consisting of quartz glass to form an optical fiber element wire. The clad 2 is formed of a transparent organic high molecular polymer having a refractive index smaller than the quartz glass of the core 1. A protecting layer 3 is concentrically arranged on the outer circumference of the clad 2. The pistoning quantity between the protecting layer 3 and the clad 2 is set within ±0.5mm. The adhesion between the clad 2 and the protecting layer 3 is set within 24-37g/mm . To provide such adhesion and pistoning quantity, the cooling start time to water cooling start after the organic high molecular polymer is fused and covered followed by discharging is set to 0.15-0.80 second to form the protecting layer 3.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber unit which prevents biases of light receiving optical fibers arranged on a concentric circle around a light projecting optical fiber, improves the sensitive performance of a small diameter object, reduces a bending radius and is excellent in bending resistance. SOLUTION: The optical fiber unit is composed of a sensor head 3, the light projecting optical fiber 1, the light receiving optical fibers 2 and dummy threads 4. The light receiving fibers 2 and the dummy threads 4 are alternately arranged on and fixed to the concentric circle around the light projecting optical fiber 1 at nearly equal intervals within the same bore diameter of the sensor head 3.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration of the light transmission performance of an optical fiber in a low temp. region by forming the cord in such a manner that the sectional structure thereof satisfies the relation of the specific equation. CONSTITUTION:The fiber cord is constituted of a core 1, a clad 2, a protective layer 3, a coating layer 4, and a tensile body fiber 5. The sectional structure of the cord satisfies the relation expressed by the equation I. In the equation, D3 denotes the outside diameter (mm) of the protective layer 3; D4 denotes the inside diameter (mm) of the coating layer 4, (d) denotes the denier of the tensile body fiber 5 and denotes 1,000 to 5,000 integer. The increase in the light transmission loss at a low temp. is suppressed in this way and the fiber cord having the excellent resistance to pulling around in wiring works, etc., and excellent handling and working properties is obtd.
