Abstract: Novel indole derivatives of the general formula I can be obtained by reacting, directly or indirectly, N,N-dimethyl-3-indolemethylamine with a Schiff base of the general formula II, I II in which R1 is cyano or methoxycarbonyl, ethoxycarbonyl, propoxycarbonyl or butoxycarbonyl, and phi is phenyl. The successive hydrolysis of the indole derivatives of the general formula I in the presence of an acid and of a base gives tryptophane.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare tryptophan hydantoin, by hydrolyzing the compound obtained by the reaction of N-(diphenylmethylene)aminoacetonitrile with gramine in the presence of an alkyl sulfate, etc., and reacting the hydrolyzate with ammonium carbonate. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula IV is prepared by (1) reacting the compound of formulaIwith gramine in the presence of an alkyl sulfate of formula R R SO4 (R and R are H or 1-4C alkyl, and are not H at the same time) or an alkyl halide of formula R X (R is 1-12C alkyl or aralkyl; X is Cl, Br or I), (2) hydrolyzing the resultant compound of formula II in the presence of an acid to afford the compound of formula III, and (3) reacting the product with ammonium carbonate. EFFECT:The objective compound can be prepared in high yield with simplified steps, and the by-products can be reused as a raw material for the preparation of starting raw material. USE:Intermediate of tryptophan.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a modified epoxy resin emulsion suitable as fiber bundling agents, etc., by emulsifying a polysulfide-modified epoxy resin having a specific structure with an emulsifying agent containing a nonionic surfactant. CONSTITUTION:A modified epoxy resin emulsion is an emulsion comprising (A) a polysulfide-modified epoxy resin expressed by the formula (R1 and R3 are organic groups; R2 is sulfur atom-containing organic group), e.g. an epoxy resin prepared by adding an epoxy prepolymer (e.g. a bisphenol A type epoxy resin) in an amount of 2 equiv. or an excess thereof to a sulfur-containing polymer (or an oligomer) and reacting both of them and (B) an emulsifying agent containing a nonionic surfactant (e.g. polyoxyethylene nonyl phenyl ether) having 8-18 HLB value. The aforementioned modified epoxy resin emulsion is obtained by adding and mixing a small amount of water with an oil containing preferably the component (B) [the component (A) alone or its mixture with other epoxy resins] added thereto, providing a W/O type emulsion, they slowly adding water, inverting the phase and finally affording the objective O/W type emulsion.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound which is an intermediate for tryptophan in high yiled under mild conditions, by reacting an N-(substituted methylene)glycine ester with a (3-indolylmethyl)trialkylammonium salt as raw materials. CONSTITUTION:An N-(substituted methylene)glycine ester of formula I [R and R are H, alkyl, (un)substituted aryl or (non)cyclic thioketal residue; R is ester residue] is reacted with a (3-indolylmethyl)trialkylammonium salt of formula II (R , R and R are alkyl; X is halide ion, sulfate ion, alkylsulfate ion, hydrogensulfate ion, hydroxyl ion, etc.) to give an N-(substituted methylene)tryptophan ester of formula III. The raw materials of formulas I and II are readily obtained in high yield. The reaction is preferably carried out in a homogeneous solvent and between two phases of solvents. The compound of formula III is hydrolyzed to afford tryptophan readily.

Abstract: NEW MATERIAL:The N-(diphenylmethylene)tryptophan ester of formulaI(R is 1-4C alkyl). EXAMPLE:N-(Diphenylmethylene)tryptophan ethyl ester. USE:Raw material for the perparation of tryptophan. Tryptophan can be produced from the ester with easy synthetic process, in high yield, under mild reaction conditions. PROCESS:The compound of formula can be prepared, e.g. by reacting the N- (diphenyl-methylene)glycine ester of formula II with the (3-indolylmethyl)trimethylammonium methylsulfate of formula III. The compound can be converted to tryptophan of formula IV either by hydrolyzing with an acid and successively with a base, or by hydrolyzing with a base and successively with an acid.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a coating compsn. esp. suitable for a rustproof precoated steel sheet by compounding a polysulfide-modified epoxy resin with a blocked isocyanate monomer or polymer. CONSTITUTION:A coating compsn. is prepd. by compounding a polysulfide- modified epoxy resin (A) with a blocked isocyanate monomer and/or polymer (B) in an equivalent ratio of OH group of the resin (A) to NCO group of the isocyanate compd (B) of pref. (1:0.5)-(1:2.0). The resin (A) is pref. represented by the formula [wherein R and R are each an org. group; X and Y are each S, O, or NH provided when (a) is 0, then at least one of X and Y is S; R and R are each a residue of an epoxy prepolymer having at least two epoxy groups in the molecule; (a) is 0-5; and b is 1-10]. Pref. a cure catalyst for component (B) is used usually in an amt. of 0.01-5wt.% of the resin.
