    Abstract: PURPOSE:A novel crystalline wholly aromatic polyether ester, obtained by polymerizing a diacetoxybiphenyl with a hydroxydibenzoic acid through the removal of acetic acid, etc., and capable of the melt polymerization and melt molding. CONSTITUTION:4,4'-Diacetoxybiphenyl is polymerized with 3,3'-hydroxydibenzoic acid through the removal of acetic acid at a polymerization temperature of 270-350 deg.C, or 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl is polymerized with the 3,3'-hydroxydibenzoic acid preferably in the presence of a polyester polymerization catalyst, e.g. titanium tetrabutoxide, through the removal of phenol to give the aimed wholly aromatic polyether ester having structural units of the formula. EFFECT:Improved heat resistance, flame retardancy, electrical and mechanical properties. The melt polymerization and melt molding can be carried out at 350 deg.C or below since the homopolymer has a melting point of 296 deg.C.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain poly-p-phenylene sulfide fibrid capable of being made into paper in an aqueous system, by adding a vinylpyrrolidone/vinyl acetate copolymer to a solution of poly-p-phenylene sulfide and subjecting the solution to flash spinning. CONSTITUTION:Poly-p-phenylene sulfide is dissolved in dioxane and/or chlorobenzene and further a vinylpyrrolidone/vinyl acetate copolymer having the molar ratio of 95/5-40/60 is added to the solution to prepare a solution of poly-p-phenylene sulfide. Then the solution is subjected to flash spinning at high temperature to give poly-p-phenylene sulfide fibrid having excellent dispersibility in water and capable of being made into paper from an aqueous system.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain fibrid of the title polymer with good dispersibility in water, by flash spinning of a solvent solution in which poly-p-phenylene sulfide has been dissolved, containing polyvinyl pyrrolidone or polyvinyl alcohol. CONSTITUTION:First, poly-p-phenylene sulfide is dissolved in a solvent consisting of dioxane and/or chlorobenzene at >=250 deg.C followed by adding a hydrophilic polymer (polyvinyl pyrrolidone or polyvinyl alcohol) to the resultant solution. Thence, the solution thus produced is put to flash spinning using a spinneret to obtain the objective fibrid of poly-p-phenylene sulfide outstanding in high head and chemical resistance, suitable for electrical insulation, chemical filtration, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:A fully aromatic polyether-ester excellent in heat resistance, flame retardancy and mechanical and electrical properties, prepared by subjecting a specified phenyl acetate compound and a specified 4, 4'-oxydibenzoic acid to an acetic acid elimination polymerization. CONSTITUTION:A fully aromatic polyether-ester consisting of structural units represented by formulaI, wherein n is 3 or 4, can be produced by an acetic acid elimination polymerization process in which 4, 4'-oxydibenzoic acid and a compound of formula II, wherein n is 3 or 4, are used as monomers, or by a phenol elimination polymerization process in which a compound of formula III, wherein n is 3 or 4, and a diphenyl 4, 4'-oxydibenzoate ester are used as monomers. USE:This polyether-ester is useful, in the form of fiber, for filters, heat-resistant electrical insulating materials, fabrics, paper and useful, in the form of film, for uniaxially or biaxially stretched films, heat-resistant electrical insulating materials. In addition, it can be used, in the form of molding, as an engineering plastic.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:A novel wholly aromatic polyetherester that is composed of a specific structural unit, thus being readily melt polymerized and melt formed at relatively low temperature into fiber, films and other products with high heat resistance, flame retardancy and mechanical properties. CONSTITUTION:For example, hydroquinone diacetate and 3,3'-(4,4'-biphenylilenedioxy)dibenzoic acid are heated at 280 deg.C for 30min and polymerized under reduced pressure at 340 deg.C for 2hr to give the objective crystalline polyetherester having melting points of 312 deg.C and 326 deg.C and a structural unit of the formula. EFFECT:The resultant polymer shows high resistance to a wide range of organic solvents, acids and alkalis. USE:Fiberglass-reinforced composite materials, filters and heat-resistant electrical insulation materials.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:The titled polymer which is melt-moldable and readily crystallizable and has excellent heat resistance, electrical properties, etc., consisting of specified structural units having ether and ester linkages and prepared by melt polymerization. CONSTITUTION:The fully aromatic polyether-ester of this invention consists of structural units of formulaI, wherein n is 3 or 4, is melt-moldable and can be readily crystallized. It is readily prepared by a melt polymerization process. For example, it is prepared by a deacetylation polymerization process in which a component of formula II is reacted with isophthalic acid or by a dephenolation polymerization process in which a compound of formula III is reacted with diphenyl isophthalate. The produced polymer is suitable in the production of fibers, films or the like and is used in filters, coverings of electric appliances, interior decorating materials, heat-resistant electrical insulating materials, etc.

CONSTITUTION:The objective solution can be obtained by dissolving poly-p- phenylene sulfide in chlorobenzene and/or dioxane at temperatures of >=250 deg.C (pref. 265-320 deg.C) so that the concentration fall, pref. between 5-25wt.% for the chlorobenzene and between 5-15wt.% for the dioxane.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To readily obtain the titled pulp outstanding in mechanical properties and heat resistance, useful for friction materials etc., by injection, under high shear, an amide solvent solution of specific polyamic acid into a coagulating both containing a chemically cyclizing agent to effect sedimentation. CONSTITUTION:First, a polyamic acid is prepared using (A) a diamine component made up of rigid aromatic diamine (mixture) and (B) an acid anhydride component selected from pyromellitic anhydride, 3,3',4,4'-biphenyl tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride, 3,3',4,4'-benzophenone tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride and 3,3',4,4'-diphenyl ether tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride. Thence, an amide solvent solution of said polyamic acid is injected, under high shear, into a coagulating both containing a mixture of a chemically cyclizing agent and cyclizing catalyst or a combination of said mixture with a non-solvent containing no active hydrogen to effect sedimentation, thus obtaining the objective pulp.
