    Abstract: PURPOSE:A novel crystalline wholly aromatic polyether ester, obtained by polymerizing a diacetoxybiphenyl with a hydroxydibenzoic acid through the removal of acetic acid, etc., and capable of the melt polymerization and melt molding. CONSTITUTION:4,4'-Diacetoxybiphenyl is polymerized with 3,3'-hydroxydibenzoic acid through the removal of acetic acid at a polymerization temperature of 270-350 deg.C, or 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl is polymerized with the 3,3'-hydroxydibenzoic acid preferably in the presence of a polyester polymerization catalyst, e.g. titanium tetrabutoxide, through the removal of phenol to give the aimed wholly aromatic polyether ester having structural units of the formula. EFFECT:Improved heat resistance, flame retardancy, electrical and mechanical properties. The melt polymerization and melt molding can be carried out at 350 deg.C or below since the homopolymer has a melting point of 296 deg.C.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain poly-p-phenylene sulfide fibrid capable of being made into paper in an aqueous system, by adding a vinylpyrrolidone/vinyl acetate copolymer to a solution of poly-p-phenylene sulfide and subjecting the solution to flash spinning. CONSTITUTION:Poly-p-phenylene sulfide is dissolved in dioxane and/or chlorobenzene and further a vinylpyrrolidone/vinyl acetate copolymer having the molar ratio of 95/5-40/60 is added to the solution to prepare a solution of poly-p-phenylene sulfide. Then the solution is subjected to flash spinning at high temperature to give poly-p-phenylene sulfide fibrid having excellent dispersibility in water and capable of being made into paper from an aqueous system.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain fibrid of the title polymer with good dispersibility in water, by flash spinning of a solvent solution in which poly-p-phenylene sulfide has been dissolved, containing polyvinyl pyrrolidone or polyvinyl alcohol. CONSTITUTION:First, poly-p-phenylene sulfide is dissolved in a solvent consisting of dioxane and/or chlorobenzene at >=250 deg.C followed by adding a hydrophilic polymer (polyvinyl pyrrolidone or polyvinyl alcohol) to the resultant solution. Thence, the solution thus produced is put to flash spinning using a spinneret to obtain the objective fibrid of poly-p-phenylene sulfide outstanding in high head and chemical resistance, suitable for electrical insulation, chemical filtration, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled fiber consisting of an aromatic polyamide copolymer containing specific two kinds of structural units and having excellent steam and heat resistance, fatigue resistance as well as dynamic characteristics, and high strength and Young's modulus. CONSTITUTION:The aimed fiber consisting of an aromatic polyamide copolymer containing 80-20mol% structural units expressed by formula I (X is methyl or Cl) and 20-80mol% structural units expressed by formula II. The fiber is produced by using (A) 3,3'-dimethylbenzidine and/or 3,3'-dichlorobenzidine and (B) 1,4-bis(p-aminophenoxy)benzene as diamine components, dissolving A and B in A/B molar ratio of 80/20-20/80 in an amide based solvent and then polycondensing the diamine components with equimolar terephthalic chloride.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a poly-p-phenylene sulfide having high molecular weight, high melt viscosity and excellent moldability, by the use of a relatively small amount of an alkaline earth metal fatty acid salt as a polymerization assistant. CONSTITUTION:The objective polyphenylene sulfide is prepared by reacting (A) a p-dihalogenobenzene or a mixture of a p-dihalogenobenzene and a poly-halogeno- aromatic compound having at least three halogen substitution groups, with (B) an alkali sulfide (except lithium sulfide), in an organic amide solvent, in the presence of (C) an alkaline earth metal fatty acid salt (e.g. calcium acetate) as a polymerization assistant. The molar ratios of (A):(B):(C) are pref. 0.95-1.2:1: 0.10-0.35. EFFECT:The composition can be easily melt-molded to obtain an article having high chemical resistance, flame-retardancy and heat resistance.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject fiber having high heat-resistance, by wet-spinning an amide solvent solution of a (partially cyclized) polyamic acid, washing with water in such a manner as to give a specific polymer concentration in a dried fiber, drying the fiber and chemically cyclizing the compound. CONSTITUTION:The raw material for the objective fiber is a polyamic acid produced by the reaction of an aromatic diamine (e.g., 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl ether) with an aromatic tetracaboxylic acid dianhydride (e.g., pyromellitic anhydride) or a partially cyclized polyamic acid produced by chemically imidating a part of the amic acid unit of the above polymer. An amide solvent solution of the above raw material is subjected to wet-spinning into an aqueous coagulation bath composed of N-methyl-pyrrolidone, water, etc. The wet-spun fiber is washed with water in such a manner as to give a polymer concentration of 50-85wt.% in a dried (partially cyclized) polyamic acid fiber. The washed fiber is dried and then treated with a chemical cyclizing agent such as acetic anhydride to obtain the objective fiber suitable for tire cord, flame-proofing clothes, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled solution capable of easy flash spinning, giving heat and chemical-resistant fibrous materials, by dissolving poly-p-phenylene sulfide in chlorobenzene and/or dioxane at temperatures above a specific level. CONSTITUTION:The objective solution can be obtained by dissolving poly-p- phenylene sulfide in chlorobenzene and/or dioxane at temperatures of >=250 deg.C (pref. 265-320 deg.C) so that the concentration fall, pref. between 5-25wt.% for the chlorobenzene and between 5-15wt.% for the dioxane.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To readily obtain the titled pulp outstanding in mechanical properties and heat resistance, useful for friction materials etc., by injection, under high shear, an amide solvent solution of specific polyamic acid into a coagulating both containing a chemically cyclizing agent to effect sedimentation. CONSTITUTION:First, a polyamic acid is prepared using (A) a diamine component made up of rigid aromatic diamine (mixture) and (B) an acid anhydride component selected from pyromellitic anhydride, 3,3',4,4'-biphenyl tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride, 3,3',4,4'-benzophenone tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride and 3,3',4,4'-diphenyl ether tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride. Thence, an amide solvent solution of said polyamic acid is injected, under high shear, into a coagulating both containing a mixture of a chemically cyclizing agent and cyclizing catalyst or a combination of said mixture with a non-solvent containing no active hydrogen to effect sedimentation, thus obtaining the objective pulp.
