    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the wear-resisting property of an overlapped leaf spring consisting of a main leaf spring an auxiliary leaf springs, without increasing the weight, the number of manufacturing steps or the like, by integrally coupling the surface layers of the auxiliary leaf springs with thin sheets of carbon-fiber-reinforced synthetic resin or steel. CONSTITUTION:An overlapped leaf spring unit 1 comprises a main leaf spring 2 made of steel and auxiliary leaf springs 3, 4 made of FRP. These leaf springs 2-4 are overlapped with interposed pieces 5 in the direction of the thickness. Round parts 6 provided on the both the ends of the main leaf spring 2 are connected to a car body. Fiberglass or the like is embedded in the auxiliary leaf springs 3, 4. thin sheets of carbon fibers, steel or the like are integrally coupled to surface layers 7, 8 of the auxiliary leaf springs at both the ends of their tension sides. This results in minimizing the wear of the leaf springs 2-4 etc. even if the surface layers 7, 8 slide on the main leaf spring 2 and the auxiliary leaf spring 3.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide an FRP leaf spring which is not requred of working accompanied by the cutting-off of embedded fibrous material and can be positioned in the assembly and installation of an overlapped leaf spring unit and be protected from displacement. CONSTITUTION:The overlapped leaf spring unit 1 comprises a major leaf spring 2 and a minor leaf spring 3 which are made from FRP and overlapped with each other. Both the leaf springs 2, 3 are tightened between an axle 4 and a clamping plate 5 by U-bolts 6 and nuts 7. Projections 10 extend from the central parts of the leaf springs 2, 3 in the direction of the thickness. The axle 4 and the clamping plate 5 are provided with positioning recesses 11 fetted with the projections 10. The projections can be made by implanting pins 12 in the leaf springs, winding a prepreg tape or the like on the pins, shaping the tape under pressure together with the leaf springs and hardening them under heat.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To maintain a sufficient clamping condition regardless of peripheral conditions by mounting spring members for pushing flat springs in the thickness direction while linking with a center bolt and U-bolts. CONSTITUTION:Flat springs 2-4 are clamped in the thickness direction because spring members 17 applies downward pushing force to the flat springs 2-4 through a spring receptacle member 16 while applying upward pushing force to the flat springs through a upper clamping member 8, U-bolts 14, an axle shaft 10 and a lower clamping member 9. Thus, a condition that each flat spring is sufficintly clamped can be held even when a center bolt 6 and the U-bolt 14 are loosened.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To manufacture an FRP leaf spring of stable high quality effectively, by hot-pressing a base material comprising a resin impregnated fibrous material into a plate article, and by cutting the article to the size of a leaf spring unit. CONSTITUTION:The surfaces 1a and 2a of the top and bottom forces 1 and 2 form curved surfaces whose generating lines are straight ones parallel to one side of the forces, and the cross-sections of the surfaces 1a and 2a correspond to those of the desired leaf spring. The base material 3 comprising a resin impregnated fibrous material is pressed between the surfaces 1a and 2a and hot-cured. The forces 1 and 2 are then separated to take out the plate article 3a, which is cut along the plane perpendicular to the generating line to give the leaf spring 4 having the desired width.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide weight reduction and higher durability of a propeller shaft by making it of hard-fiber resin, which is supplied with a hollow propeller shaft, an end piled member, and an element connected with an universal joint. CONSTITUTION:A piled element 3 is mounted on one end of a hollow hard-fiber resin propeller shaft 1. A connecting hole 4 is made through the piled element 3 and the shaft 2 and in which a supporting member 5 such as a bearing is fixed. One hand of the universal-joint connecting pin 6 is supported by the supporting member 5 and another of the pin is supported by another member 5' set in the connecting hole 4' of another shaft yoke 5' so that the propeller shaft can be jointed with the other shaft. Thus no need for a current yoke may provide more light weight propeller shaft than ordinal one and prevent disconnection of the piled members due to high tension with the yoke.
