Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a photocatalytic body preventing the peeling of the photocatalyst layer from the substrate even in high-speed running water, having flexibility, high handleability and superior catalytic activity and excellent also in light transmittance by forming a photocatlayst layer on the surface of a substrate. SOLUTION: This photocatalytic body with a thin photocatalyst layer on the surface of the substrate is used at the time of degrading and removing harmful org. substances in air and water by photooxidation reaction with a photocatalyst, can easily be separated after treatment and is excellent in handleability in operation. The photocatalyst is held on the surface of the substrate sheet without using a binder, etc., the photocatlayst layer does not peel from the substrate even in high-speed running water and the flexibility of the substrate is not deteriorated because the photocatalyst layer is thinly and uniformly held on a thin film as the substrate.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To process a large amt. of water at a high flow rate under low pressure loss by forming a tower packed with ion exchange fiber to satisfy a specified relation of the tower length to the diameter. CONSTITUTION:A tower 3 packed with ion exchange fiber 4 satisfies the relation of 0.04 , and length of the ion exchange fiber 4 is 0.2-2.5mm. The ion exchange fiber 4 has a composite structure of ion exchange polymer (e.g. polystyrene) and reinforcing polymer (e.g. polyethylene). The ion exchange fiber 4 is a mixture floor consisting of strong acid cation exchange fiber and strong base anion exchange fiber.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a deoxygenating fiber capable of treating an object at high flow velocity and showing high deoxygenating efficiency by adding a metal having redox function to an ion exchange fiber. CONSTITUTION:An iron exchange fiber consisting of an ion exchange polymer such as polystyrene having an ion exchange group such as a chelate group and a reinforcing polymer such as a poly-alpha-olefin is used. A metal having redox function such as ion or copper is reacted with the ion exchange fiber and the metal ion is bonded to the ion exchange fiber to obtain a deoxygenating fiber. The deoxygenating fiber of high performance is obtained by this method and, therefore, the concn. of oxygen can be lowered to a limit and high speed treatment becomes possible because of high deoxygenating velocity.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain ultrapure water in large quantities at a high flow rate by combining a UV-filter membrane-cartridge polisher circulation system with a use point column packed with ion exchange fibers. CONSTITUTION:When pure water obtd. from a primary pure water system is continuously circulated among UV, a cartridge polisher and a filter membrane to collect ultrapure water, this water is passed through a column packed with ion exchange fibers in other line and ultrapure water is obtd. in large quantities at a high flow rate. The ion exchange fibers are preferably polystyrene-based fibers. For example, raw water 13 is passed through a prefilter 1, RO 2 and an ion exchange device 3 and the resulting primary pure water is stored once in a tank 4, passed through UV 6, a cartridge polisher 7 and UF 8 by a pump 5, well circulated among the UV 6, the polisher 7 and the UF 8 and then passed through a use point column 9. Ultrapure water 14 is obtd. from MF 10.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simultaneously adsorb/remove ionic gas and org. gas by incorporating a sheet of filter paper containing at least ion exchange fiber and activated carbon as a filter material in a frame material. SOLUTION: A chemical filter being a high performance filter capable of sufficiently coping with electronic industry requirement is produced by incorporating the filter paper containing at least ion exchange fiber and activated carbon as the filter material in the frame material. In this chemical filter, a three- dimensional structure of the filter material is formed by thermocompression bonding without using an adhesive, etc., and the filter subjected to corrugating work is preferable because it can be packed densely in a unit volume, the gas can pass it in a parallel flow and pressure loss is suppressed. The corrugated workpiece is obtained by heat-bonding a corrugated sheet 5a and a planar sheet 6 and forming a large number of small holes 8a laminated alternately.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an outstanding detergent action to be displayed on clogging of a porous membrane through which untreated water containing a large quantity of manganese and iron without necessity to perform a backwash by circulating a liquid containing hydrochloric acid and organic acid through a porous membrane module. SOLUTION: In a hollow fiber membrane module which is of such a type that it is equipped with a liquid bath 1, a drive pump 2 and a module pipe 6 holding a bundle of hollow fibers 7... and a liquid is filtered under an external pressure, a chemical solution is made to flow in the fiber axial direction so that the chemical solution comes into contact with the surface of a filtration membrane. The chemical solution to be used is mixed acid obtained by mixing aqueous hydrochloric acid solution with organic acid. In this case, a waste water contained in the membrane module is preferably drained prior to the treatment of the filtration membrane with the aqueous mixed acid solution and a water wash step is adopted as a pretreatment step. The organic acid to be used is optional and, for example, carboxylic acid such as acetic acid and polycarboxylic acid such as phthalic acid or fumaric acid are named. Oxalic acid or citric acid is the most preferable acid for use.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable to preserve a separation membrane module for a long period without degrading membrane performance by preparing a preserving liquid for separation membrane from a solution containing at least a sorbic acid compound as one component to prevent the separation membrane module from the propagation of bacteria and fungi. SOLUTION: The preserving liquid for the separation membrane such as a precision filtration membrane, an ultrafiltration membrane, a reverse osmotic membrane, an infiltration and evaporation membrane is prepared from the solution containing at least the sorbic acid compound as one component. As the sorbic acid compound, particularly potassium sorbate is suitably used. The potassium sorbate solution is used at pH3-8 because of the strong antibacterial property in acidic pH range and, as a solvent for dissolving potassium sorbate, a solvent consisting essentially of water is used. The concentration of potassium sorbate is adjusted to 1-5000ppm. As a using method of the preserving liquid, a method by charging the prescribed potassium sorbate solution in the module to dip the separation membrane, a method by applying the potassium sorbate solution on the surface of the membrane and preserving as it is and the like are mentioned.
