Abstract: With white films or micro-porous films for thermal transfer recording in the prior art involving .beta.-crystal transitions, production of the film and receiving sheet were not compatible, at a high level, with the sensitivity of the receiving sheet. The present invention relates to a biaxially oriented white film for thermal transfer recording which has low specific gravity required as a thermal transfer film, high whiteness and cushion factor, and is excellent in crease resistance, and has a high--level compatibility between high sensitivity and productivity when used as a substrate of a receiving sheet, and a receiving sheet for thermal transfer recording using the same.

Abstract: A biaxially oriented white polypropylene film for thermal transfer recording (first form), comprised of a polypropylene resin of 30% or higher .beta.- crystal ratio and 140 to 172~C melting temperature, characterized in that th e biaxially oriented white polypropylene film has substantially non-nucleated voids, a void ratio of 30 to 80%, a sum of strengths (F2 values) at 2% elongation in the longitudinal direction and the width direction of the film of 10 to 70 MPa and a surface gloss of 10 to 145%.
