Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain efficiently interferon useful as an antiviral agent from Escherichia coli, produced by integrating a novel plasmid which is integrated with an interferon constitutional gene linked to a specific promotor into Esherichia coli, followed by cultivating it. CONSTITUTION:An interferon constitutional gene is linked to a promotor such as TuB-2 promotor, which is linked to a beta-galactosidase gene in the lower chain and has an efficiency to produce >=10,000mol of beta-galactosidase per Escherichia coli when it is integrated with Esherichia coli. The linked substance is further integrated with a plasmid such as pBEU17 capable of increasing copy numbers by human induction to give a novel plasmid, which is integrated into Escherichia coli, to give Escherichia coli capable of producing interferon, and the Escherichia coli is cltivated to collect interferon. The Escherichia coli is obtained by treating the plasmid with Escherichia coli and CaCl2 at low temperature, and the recombined Escherichia coli produces interferon efficiently.
