    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biaxially oriented polyester film reduced in the deviation of a recording track when the film is used for a magnetic tape and excellent in running durability as well as preservation stability. SOLUTION: The biaxially oriented polyester film is characterized in that a Poisson's ratio upon loading the load of 50 MPa in the lengthwise direction is within the range of 0.10-0.35 and a creep compliance in the lengthwise direction of the film when 30 minute is elapsed after loading the load of 28 MPa at a temperature of 50 deg.C is within the range of 0.1-0.3 Gpa-1 while a residual stress when 30 minute is elapsed after removing the load is within the range of 0-0.1%.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester films excellent in the deformation under elongation of tapes and dimensional stability under the conditions of temperature and humidity assumed for service circumstances. SOLUTION: This polyester film has ethylene terephthalate as the major component and a long period of 110-120 Å, a ratio (I 847/I 874) of the peak intensity at 847 cm-1 to that at 874 cm-1 of 0.08-0.15, and a ratio (I 1041/I 874) of the peak intensity at 1041 cm-1 to that at 847 cm-1 of 0.35-0.45 in the infrared spectroscopy.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester film differs less in properties in the direction of width, showing excellent productivity, and being desirable for e.g. printer ribbons, capacitors, printing plates, photos, and cards. SOLUTION: Provided are a process for producing a polyester film which comprises orienting an unoriented film based on polyethylene terephthalate in the machine and transverse directions, cooling the film to the glass transition temperature or lower, and irradiating the film with UV light from at least either of the directions of thickness of the film and a polyester film produced by the above process.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyester film low in heat shrinkage factor and capable of being widely put to practical use as a polyester film suitable for a magnetic recording medium, a printing ribbon, a condenser or packing. SOLUTION: A polyester film is produced by stretching an unstretched film based on polyethylene terephthalate in at least one of the longitudinal and lateral directions thereof and subsequently irradiating this film with UV rays in at least one direction of the thickness direction thereof to reduce the heat shrinkage factor of the film. Energy density at a time of the irradiation with UV rays is pref. 0.1-10 J/cm2.
