    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an aromatic polyamide film used to form a magnetic recording medium small in damages of the end surface which satisfies a specified relationship between the loss modulus at a specified temperature in the direction of width and that at a specified high temperature. SOLUTION: This is an aromatic polyamide film containing at least 50 mol% repeating units represented by formula I or II and satisfying the relationships: E"(50)>E"(150) [wherein E"(50) is the loss modulus at 50 deg.C in the direction of width, and D"(150) is that at 150 deg.C in the direction of width]. It is desirable that the film contains 0-1 wt.% inorganic particles having a particle diameter of 10-200 nm and that the rate of the inorganic-particle-containing layer is at least 50%. When the film is used as a film, it has a thickness of 1-8 μm. A magnetic recording medium is made by applying a magnetic coating material comprising a ferromagnetic powder such as an iron oxide having a particle diameter of at most 0.3 μm and a thermosetting or radiation-curable binder to at least either surface of such film. In the formula, Ar1 to Ar3 are each a group of formula III or IV (wherein X and Y are each -O-, -CH2-, -CO-, -SO2-, or the like) or the like.
