SOLUTION: In this color picture tube, a light selective absorption layer is formed on a panel outer surface, and a black matrix is composed by a laminate formed by laminating a yellow pigment layer and a black layer. The yellow pigment layer is formed as such a layer as to have the maximum absorption in the region of a wavelength of 560 nm or less and to have a spectral characteristic larger than 80% of a transmissivity at the wavelength showing the minimum absorption. Preferably the light selective absorption layer is formed so as to have the maximum absorption in the region of a wavelength of 575 nm and is a layer that the transmissivity at the wavelength is 40-90% of the transmissivity at the wavelength showing the minimum absorption.
