    Abstract: COLORING MATERIAL AND PROCESS FOR PREPARATION THEREOF A coloring material comprising a solution of an alcohol-soluble resin having a sulfonic acid group or a salt thereof, which is dyed with a basic dye, in a solvent comprising an alcohol as a main component. The coloring material is prepared either by (a) polymerizing an ethylenically unsaturated sulfonic acid or a salt thereof in water and adding a basic dye to the obtained aqueous liquid of the formed polymer or (b) carrying out said polymerization in the presence of a basic dye, and dissolving (i) the obtained aqueous liquid of the formed colored polymer or (ii) a colored polymer obtained by removing water from the obtained aqueous liquid of the formed colored polymer in a solvent comprising an alcohol as a main component; or, (a') carrying out said polymerization in a solvent comprising an alcohol as a main component and then adding a basic dye to the obtained polymer solution, or (b') carrying out said polymerization in the presence of a basic dye.

    Abstract: AQUEOUS COLORED POLYMER, PROCESS FOR PREPARING SAME AND INK COMPRISING SAME An aqueous colored polymer is provided, which comprises (a) a homopolymer of an ethylenically unsaturated sulfonic acid or its salt or (b) a copolymer of an ethylenically unsaturated sulfonic acid or its salt with other ethylenically unsaturated monomer, said homopolymer or copolymer being dyed with a basic dye and having a lowest film-forming temperature of not higher than 35.degree.C. The aqueous colored polymer is prepared by polymerizing an ethylenically unsaturated sulfonic acid or its salt, or its mixture with other ethylenically unsaturated monomer by an aqueous solution or emulsion polymerization procedure at a temperature of not higher than 100.degree.C in a specified amount of water and then adding a basic dye to the resulting polymer solution or emulsion, or : carrying out this solution or emulsion polymerization in the presence of a basic dye. The aqueous polymer is useful as an aqueous ink such as an ink for the ink jet recording.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an economically advantageous distillation method capable of preparing a high quality oxystyrene derivative such as PTBS (p-tert-butoxystyrene), PACS (p-acetoxystyrene) or MTBS (m-tert-butoxystyrene) at a high recovery rate, which derivative is inhibited in discoloration and thus has dissolved conventional problems in the prior art, by inhibiting the decomposition and discoloration of the oxystyrene derivative and a polymerization inhibitor, without impairing a polymerization inhibiting effect of a nitroso compound or a nitro compound which is a polymerization inhibitor.
    SOLUTION: In a method comprising distilling an oxystyrene derivative in the presence of a nitroso compound and/or a nitro compound, the distillation is carried out in the coexistence of an epoxy compound.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable effective decoloration of a colored nucleus-brominated styrene on an industrial scale at a low cost by dissolving the crude brominated styrene in an aliphatic hydrocarbon and contacting with a specific adsorbent such as oxides composed mainly of silica or alumina. CONSTITUTION:A colored nucleus-brominated styrene (BS) is dissolved in a cyclic or chain saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon having a carbon number of about 5-8 (especially hexane, heptane or octane) and made to contact with one or more kinds of adsorbents selected from (a) oxide composed mainly of silica or alumina, (b) carbonate, phosphate or silicate of calcium or magnesium and (c) amorphous carbon. The BS can effectively be decolored by this process. A BS which does not cause discoloration of a resin molded article after polymerization, especially mono-to tribromostyrene useful as a reactive flame-retardant or monomer for a polymeric material can be produced with a simple procedure by a process having high industrial utilization value and practicability at a low cost.
