Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound excellent as a food additive, by heat- treating specific casein in an aqueous solution of an alkali, adding an acidic substance, recovering casein precipitates, suspending the casein precipitates in water and adding calcium hydroxide. CONSTITUTION:At least one selected from acid casein, potassium caseinate and sodium caseinate in an amount of preferably 10-30wt.% (based on an alkaline solution) is heat-treated in the alkaline solution, such as sodium hydroxide, preferably at 40-70 deg.C for 6-24hr and an acidic substance, such as hydrochloric or acetic acid, is added to regulate the pH to about 4.6. Casein precipitated thereby is suspended in water and calcium hydroxide is added so as to provide pH 7 and afford the aimed calcium caseinate.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To industrially and advantageously obtain the title compound useful as an intermediate of a liver remedy, etc., by dispersing blood powder in a methanol-acetone mixture, introducing hydrogen chloride gas into the dispersion in the presence of a divalent iron ion to carry out iron removal and esterification of a heme and extracting the product. CONSTITUTION:Blood powder is dispersed in a solvent of a mixture of methanol with acetone and ferrous sulfate, etc., is added thereto. Hydrogen chloride gas is introduced into this dispersion in the presence of a divalent iron ion to remove iron and esterify hemoglobin and convert a heme to a protoporphyrin diester. Then the produced protoporphyrin diester is extracted into a solvent, followed by solid-liquid separation. Chloroform is then added to the filtrate and the mixture is washed with water, etc. The chloroform layer is separated and the solvent is distilled off. The obtained residue is then purified by recrystallization, etc. to afford the aimed compound.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To increase solubility in water at a low cost, by forming globin, separated and collected from animal blood into an alkaline aqueous solution of specific pH and subjecting the aqueous solution to decoloring treatment with an oxidizing agent. CONSTITUTION:Globin, separated and collected from animal blood is used to prepare an aqueous solution at >=10.5, preferably >=11.5pH. After sufficiently dissolving the globin, an aqueous solution of an oxidizing agent, e.g. sodium chlorite, sodium hypochlorite, potassium iodate, etc., is added and a reducing agent is preferably further added to carry out decoloring treatment and increase solubility in water at the same time.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To simultaneously perform pretreatment (biological oxidizing treat ment) and post-treatment (activated carbon treatment) by treating water using activated carbon and a gellike carrier having aerobic bacteria immobilized thereon. CONSTITUTION:Activated carbon, a gellike carrier having aerobic bacteria immobilized thereon and waste water containing org. matter are brought to a contact state under aeration in a reaction tank to remove the org. matter contained in waste water. As the gellike carrier to be used, for example, there are agar, sodium alginate and the like. Aerobic bacteria and activated carbon are immobilized on this gellike carrier. Aerobic bacteria decompose or metabo lize the org. matter contained in waste water to purify the waste water. The gellike carrier having activated carbon and aerobic bacteria immobilized thereon prepared by the above-mentioned method is reacted with waste water under aeration to perform water treatment. Treatment temp. is pref. 20 - 50 deg.C, more pref. 25 - 35 deg.C.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To cultivate plant in high efficiency without the need for using any special equipment by using a gel-like carrier with a hydrogen peroxide- decomposing catalyst and/or magnetic substance includedly immobilized. CONSTITUTION:A plant is cultivated using a gel-like carrier with a hydrogen peroxide-decomposing catalyst and/or magnetic substance includedly immobilized. For said carrier, a water-soluble polymeric gel can be used (e.g. agar-agar, sodium alginate, polyvinyl alcohol). The concentration of the carrier is pref. ca. 0.1-10wt.% based on the aqueous solution prior to gelling. Said catalyst is e.g. an enzyme such as catalase, metal, metal oxide. Said magnetic substance is pref. paramagnetic or ferromagnetic. It is effective that the catalyst be a magnetic substance. When a plant is to cultivate using the above-mentioned gel-like carrier, an aqueous solution containing hydrogen peroxide (its concentration being pref. 10-300ppm) is pref. fed to the carrier.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To treat waste water having wide ranges of COD and BOD in one day without bulking sludge by fixing one or more among activated sludge, aerobic bacteria and mold and a catalyst for decomposition of hydrogen peroxide in a gelatinous carrier and bringing the waste water into contact with the carrier in coexistence with hydrogen peroxide. CONSTITUTION:One or more among activated sludge, aerobic bacteria and mold and a catalyst for decomposition of hydrogen peroxide are fixed in a gelatinous carrier and waste water is brought into contact with the carrier in coexistence with hydrogen peroxide. This hydrogen peroxide is decomposed into oxygen and water on the surface of the gel by the activated sludge and the catalytic action of the catalyst and the generated oxygen penetrates into the gel. The activated sludge, aerobic bacteria or mold fixed in the gel comes in contact with the generated oxygen and the waste water without hindrance by hydrogen peroxide and can treat the waste water. Since the concn. of dissolved oxygen can freely be controlled, even waste water having wide ranges of COD and BOD in one day can be treated.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain plasma powder having no adverse effects on food flavor and improved in odor and taste by contact treatment of the plasma of bovine or pig with colloidal silica followed by forming into powder. CONSTITUTION:The objective plasma powder can be obtained by contact treatment of the plasma of bovine or pig with colloidal silica followed by forming into powder. The colloidal silica to be used is e.g. silica gel, light silica, acid clay, etc., (pref. light silica). The conditions in the contact treatment are: (1) 1-150g of colloidal silica per 1 of the plasma, (2) pH: 3-9, (3) treating temperature: 5-60 deg.C, etc. The treatment process may be either batch or column process (pref. the former). The present plasma powder thus obtained develops no recognizable odor or taste even if stored for six months; therefore, it will be applicable to foods to which conventional plasma powder could not be added due to its odor or taste (e.g. noodles, cakes), thus leading to application to new uses.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a plasma-originated protein having little odor and low content of coloring substance with simple procedure by treating plasma with an acidic or basic substance and removing the denaturated hemoglobin. CONSTITUTION:To remove a discoloration-causing substance from plasma, the plasma is treated with an acidic or basic substance and the denaturated hemoglobin is removed. Concretely, an acidic substance (preferably hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid, acetic acid, etc.) is added to the plasma to adjust the pH to 3-6 or a basic substance (preferably sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide) is added to the plasma to adjust the pH to 9-13, the mixture is maintained at 0-40 deg.C to effect the denaturation of hemoglobin and the denaturated hemoglobin is removed from the system. A representative method for further improving the purification effect of plasma is the treatment of plasma with polymer electrolyte and then activated carbon and, finally, the pH-modification treatment. In addition to the above procedures, the plasma is filtered with a ceramic filter.
