Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a quartz glass formed body having optical characteristics suitable for optical use by eliminating influence of striae with no heat treatment for removing striae even when the quartz glass formed body has a relatively large diameter.SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing an optical quartz glass formed body includes a process of obtaining a plate formed body by pressurizing a quartz glass ingot compounded by a direct method from the same direction as the growth direction of the ingot, and a process of deleting one or both faces (hereinafter, referred to as a pressurized formed face) formed by pressurizing the obtained plate formed body until no striae can be observed by visual inspection from the vertical direction of the pressurized formed face to obtain the quartz glass formed body.
