Abstract: PURPOSE:To realize a wide range of lighting control in a discharge lamp, by forming the electrode which operates as a cathode out of a pair of electrode in a discharge lamp into a composite electrode which comprises a cold and a hot cathodes connected to each other. CONSTITUTION:When comparatively large lamp current, e.g., 30mA are made to flow across a discharge lamp 2, respective hot spots are formed in filaments which are hot cathodes 4a, 4a of paired composite electrodes 4, 4 to generate are discharge between paired hot cathodes 4a and 4b and then to light the discharge lamp 2. When comparatively small lamp current e.g., 5 mA is made to flow across the lamp 2, a temperature rise enough to form the hot spots is not obtained for the filaments, and therefore the arc discharge is not generat ed between the hot cathodes 4a, 4a. However, ions are radiated from paired cold cathodes 4b, 4b to generate glow discharge and then to light the discharge lamp 2. Hence, lighting control in the discharge lamp can be realized over the wide discharge range from glow to arc.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To make the total device small-sized and prevent the reduction of lighting efficiency due to lighting direction of the lamp, by providing a stabilizer between the both ends of the curved tube fluorescent lamp and by deviating the position from the both ends part to the side of the curved part of the lamp.
CONSTITUTION: A stabilizer 19 is provided between both ends 20a, 20b of a curved tube fluorescent lamp 20 which are placed in the same direction, and deviated from the both ends part 20a, 20b to the side of the curved part 22 of the lamp 20. Thus the coldest part is formed surely on a part of the fluorescent lamp 20 regardless of the lighting direction. Therefore all excessive mercury in the tube condenses on the coldest part to prevent the excessive pressurization of the vapor pressure in the tube. Thus the lighting efficiency can be maintained at maxium regardless of the lighting direction of the lamp 20 to prevent the fluctuation of the brightness. Furthermore by providing the stabilizer 19 on the inside of the lamp 20 the small space can be utilized effectively and the whole device 1 can be made small.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of cracks on a button stem main body by inserting and fixing unused welds together with electrode supporting welds into the glass button stem main body. CONSTITUTION:Electrode supporting welds 13 and 14 made of conducting metal and suspending an electrode for hot cathode 17 and unused welds 15 and 16 are arranged in turn at the same distance in the peripheral direction on a button stem 11, and they are inserted and fixed in parallel with the axial direction of a stem main body 12. Since the number of welds is increased, the distortion of the stem main body 12 is reduced, and its strength is increased. The reduction of the lamp efficiency caused by cracks generated on the button stem 11 at the time of production or in use and the leakage of the filler gas is thereby prevented.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent any defective such as a crack or the like on a metalized film from occurring by installing a process which coats the metalized film on an outer surface of a glass bulb after a binder burning-dissipation process and a sealing process for the phosphor coat coated to an inner surface of the glass bulb. CONSTITUTION:A phosphor coat 2 is clad to an inner surface of a glass bulb 1. In succession, the bulb 1 is heated and baked and a binder is burned in dissipation. At time, a metalized film is not yet coated on an outer surface of the bulb 1. Next, a flare of a stem of the mount attached with a discharge electrode is sealed to an end of the bulb 1. Successively, an exhaust tube of the stem is connected to an exhaust system and the bulb 1 is heated and exhausted while degassing, then decomposition of the discharge electrode, mercury dropping, sealing of easily dischargeable gas and exhaust operation for the exhaust tube or the like are all performed. At the next process, a metalized film 5 of stainless steel or the like is deposited to the outer surface of the bulb 1, and furthermore a protective coat of silicon dioxide is deposited by evaporation. Thus, any defective such as a crack or the like on the metalized film 5 is preventable from occurring.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily receive the heat of electrode in the base end side and eliminate short-circuit discharge at the free end by providing the end point feed end side of auxiliary amalgam supported by an internal lead wire to the area far from the electrode in comparison with the base end side. CONSTITUTION:A luminous tube 8 of a fluorescent lamp housed in an external enclosure is formed with a U-shaped bending part and both end portions, both ends are sealed by a stem bulb 11 and an electrode 13 is connected as the filament between the internal lead wires 12 of bulb 11. An inactive gas is supplied to the liminous tube 8 from a fine tube 14 extended from the bulb 11. The main amalgam 15 which controls silver vapor pressure at the time of lighting and the axiliary amalgam 20 which absorbs floating silver when the lamp goes out and releases such silver at the time of starting are provided in such a fine tube 14. The free end side 20a of this amalgam is arranged far from the electrode13 than the attaching side of lead wire 20. The heat generated from the electrode 13 in the fitting side is sufficiently absorbed and short-circuit discharge at the free end side 20a can be prevented.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the damage of base metal and the blackening of a tube wall by exhausting the inner part of a bulb, decomposing and activating an electron emission material, and sealing the base metal for forming amalgam in the bulb. CONSTITUTION:A mount system with a filament electrode in which an electron emission material is mounted on both ends of a tubular bulb with a phosphor coat on the inner surface is sealed, heated, and exhausted, and a filament is turned on and then the electron emission material is decomposed and activated. Mercury is sealed in the bulb and the filament is turned on again and flow discharge is generated between both ends of the filament. The electron emission material of the filament end is decomposed and activated by the heat and emitted cracked gas is exhausted. Then the fine particles of the base metal that should form amalgam are entered in the bulb. While or after amalgam is formed, an exhaust tube is sealed by filling the inner part of the bulb with start gas, such as argon.
