    Abstract: NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I or formula II [n is 1-8; R to R are 1-5C alkyl or alkenyl; R is H or 1-5C alkyl or alkenyl, except ((CH3)3GaNH(CH3)2)n or ((CH3)2GaNH(CH3))n]. EXAMPLE:A compound expressed by the formula ((CH3)2GaNH(CH2CH=CH2))n. USE:A raw material for compound semiconductor GaN used for blue light-emitting diode, etc. PREPARATION:A trialkylgallium is blended with a primary or secondary amine compound while cooling to give a complex expressed by formula I. The complex is subjected to heating treatment to release methane or ethane gas and provide the compound expressed by formula II.

    Abstract: NEW MATERIAL:An alpha-(omega-cyanoalkyanoyl)-gamma-butyrolactone of formula I (n is an integer of 7-11). EXAMPLE:alpha-(11-Cyanoundecanoyl)-gamma-butyrolactone. USE:An intermediate enabling to prepare an omega-hydroxy fatty acid (an intermediate of a large cyclic lactone perfume) from inexpensive and readily available raw materials in simple operations in a high yield by remarkably shortened three processes compared with the conventional methods. Also widely useful as an intermediate lactone. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I is prepared by reacting a compound of formula II with gamma-butyrolactone in the presence of a compound of formula: R'OM (R' is 1-4C alkyl; M is alkali metal). The above-mentioned perfume of formula V can be readily prepared from the compound of formula I through a compound of formula IV in a high yield.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title compound industrially and advantageously by reacting an alpha-(omega-cyanoalkanoyl)-gamma-butyrolactone readily obtainable in high yield in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide in water or a mixed solvent of water and an organic solvent. CONSTITUTION:An alpha-(omega-cyanoalkanoyl)-gamma-butyrolactone shown by formula I (n is 7-11) is reacted in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide in water solvent or a mixed solvent of water and an organic solvent, hydrolyzed and decarboxylated to give an omega-hydroxy-(omega-3)-ketofatty acid shown by formula II. The compound shown by formula I is readily obtained in high yield by reacting an omega-cyanofatty acid ester shown by formula III (R is 1-4C alkyl) with gamma-butyrolactone in the presence of an alkali metal alcoholate. The formed compound shown by formula II is useful as an important intermediate for macrocyclic lactone-based perfume in the field of perfume industry.
