Abstract: A catalyst for hydrogenation of oxalate diester prepd. by (i) contacting Cu-amine complex with colloidal silica-sol in the presence of aq. media at 40-100 deg.C and (ii) redn. of produced Cu-contd. silica-gel with hydrogen stream at 400-800deg.C. The wt. ratio of SiO2 to Cu is 1: Cu 0.001-2 esp. 1:Cu 0.01-1. Ethyleneglycole and/or glycolate ester is prepd. by hydrogenation of oxalate diester i.e. dimethyloxalate, dibutyloxalate in the presence of catalyst.

Abstract: A dehydration catalyst useful for producing a monoalkylether of dihydric phenolic compound by a dehydration reaction of a dihydric phenolic compound with a lower alkyl alcohol with a high conversion at a high selectivity, comprises at least one inorganic substance of the empirical formula (I): Ala Pb Tic Sid Xe Of wherein X represents a member selected from (1) an antimony and/or a bismuth atom, and (2) a sulfur atom, a, b, c, d, e and f respectively represent the numbers of Al, P, Ti, Si, X and O atoms, the atomic ratio a:b is 1:1.0 to 1.9, the atomic ratio a:c is 1:0.05 to 0.5, the atomic ratio a:d is 1:0.05 to 0.2, the atomic ratio a:e is 1:0.01 to 0.3 when X represents antimony and/or bismuth atom and 1:0.004 to 0.015 when X represents a sulfur atom, and the atomic ratio a:f is 1:4.1 to 8.4.

[Also in Divisions C1 and C2] An ammoxidation catalyst comprises 95-50 parts wt. of a bismuth antimonate in which the atomic ratio of bismuth to antimony is 1:1, containing less than 10% wt. of other bismuth antimonates and 5-50 parts wt. of a bismuth molybdate and/or bismuth tungstate in which the atomic ratio of bismuth to molybdenum or tungsten is 2:3, containing less than 20% wt. of other bismuth molybdates or tungstates. The catalyst may be supported, e.g. by silica, alumina, alumina-silica, silicates or carborundum, inactivated by treatment at elevated temperatures. Surface areas of 1 to 3 m 2 /g are disclosed.
