Abstract: A catalyst obtained by contacting (A) a compound of a transition metal of the group V of the Periodic Table represented by formula (I): wherein M represents a transition metal of the group V of the Periodic Table; R represents a cyclopentadienyl group, a substituted cyclopentadienyl group, an indenyl group, a substituted indenyl group, a fluorenyl group or a substituted fluorenyl group; O represents an oxygen atom; X represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group, an aryloxy group or an amido group; L represents a Lewis basic compound; n, m, and p each represent an integer selected to make a combination of (n=1, m=1, p=2), (n=1, m=0, p=3), (n=2, m=0, p=1) or (n=1, m=0, p=2); and a represents 0, 1 or 2, and (B) at least one of (B1) an ionic compound comprising a non-coordinating anion and a cation and (B2) an aluminoxane, provided that the component (B) is an ionic compound comprising a non-coordinating anion and a cation (B1) when the combination of n, m, and p of the component (A) is (n=2, m=0, p=1) or (n=1, m=0, p=2).

Abstract: A process for polymerization of .alpha.-olefin comprises polymerizing an .alpha.-olefin in the presence of a catalyst containing the following catalyst components (A), (B) and (C): (A) a solid catalyst containing magnesium, titanium, a halogen element and an electron donor indispensably, (B) an organoaluminum compound, and (C) an orgnaosilicon compound represented by the following general formula: R12Si(OR2)2 (wherein R1 is an unsubstituted cyclic amino group, and R2 is a C1-24 hydrocarbon group). The process can produce an .alpha.-olefin polymer high in stereoregularity, melt flowability and melt flow rate. The process can also reduce a problem of the high pressure resistance to be ordinarily possessed by the reactor in bulk polymerization because of the hydrogen filled in a large amount.

Abstract: In the production of a conjugated diene polymer, if the yield gradually decreases, the yield can be recovered. A conjugated diene polymer is produced using a transition metal catalyst and an organic aluminum compound as a cocatalyst, but while a conjugated diene polymer is continuously produced, the yield gradually decreases. In response, the amount of cocatalyst that is supplied is adjusted based on the extent of production of deactivated material produced in the reaction system. More specifically, when the extent of production becomes a prescribed value or less, an increase in the amount of cocatalyst is started. Furthermore, when it is determined that the yield has sufficiently recovered, the increased amount of cocatalyst is stopped. In other words, the prescribed amount of cocatalyst prior to the increase is supplied.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a conjugated diene polymer in high catalytic activity by polymerizing a conjugated diene in the presence of a catalyst obtained from a metallocene type complex of a transition metal compound and an ionic compound between a non-coordinatable anion and a cation, and/or an aluminoxane. SOLUTION: A catalyst is obtained by combining a metallocene type complex of a transition metal compound of the formula: MRX3 with an ionic compound composed of a non-coordinatable anion and a cation, and/or an aluminoxane. A conjugated diene represented by the formula is polymerized at -100 to 100 deg.C for 1 min to 24 hr in the presence of the catalyst. The solvent used in a solution polymerization is desirably toluene or cyclohexane. In the formula, R1 is a 1-8C hydrocarbon group; R2 and R3 are each H or a 1-8C hydrocarbon group; M is a transition metal of group V in the periodic table; R is cyclopentadienyl, indenyl, a substituterd indenyl, fluorenyl, or a substituted fluorenyl; and X is H, a halogen, a 1-20C hydrocarbon group, an alkoxy, or amino.
