    Abstract: Maleic anhydride was prepd. by the oxidn. of butane using a catalyst prepd. from V2O5 and P2O5 activated with Co, Ni or Cd. Thus, a mixt. of V2O5 65.1, HC1 1,000, CoC12.. H2O 32.3, and H3PO4 80.1 parts was refluxed, evapd. to dryness, dried for 12hr at 12≦̸C, and calcined for 4hr. at 350≦̸C. The residue was powdered and mixed with graphite to give a v-p-Co catalyst of ratio 1 ; 1. 14 ; 0. 19.
