    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a field blend with a high productivity by transferring a mixture of an ethylene copolymer and an active catalyst which is formed in the first reactor in a series of fluidized-bed reactors into the second reactor to react the same with or without introduction of a cocatalyst other than the cocatalyst introduced in the first reactor. SOLUTION: In a method of contacting ethylene and a 3-8C α-olefin with a transition metal catalyst system in two reactors under polymerization conditions, about 0.01-0.8 mole and about 0.005-0.6 mole of the α-olefin and about 0.001-0.3 mole and about 0.2-3 mole of hydrogen per mole of ethylene are introduced in each of the reactors in which copolymers of low and high melt index or flow index are formed, respectively. No catalyst is charged into the second reactor and the reaction is carried out with or without introduction of a hydrocarbyl aluminum cocatalyst other than the hydrocarbyl aluminum cocatalyst introduced in the first reactor.

    Abstract: A process for preparing an ethylene copolymer blend comprising contacting ethylene and at least one alpha-olefin comonomer having 3 to 8 carbon atoms with a transition metal based catalyst system in two fluidized bed reactors connected in series, in the gas phase, under polymerization conditions, with the provisos that: (a) the first reactor is operated at a temperature at or above the dew point of the mixture of monomers, but no higher than about 5 degrees C above said dew point; (b) the mixture of ethylene copolymer matrix and active catalyst formed in the first reactor in the series is transferred to the second reactor in the series; (c) other than the active catalyst referred to in proviso (b), no additional catalyst is introduced into the second reactor; (d) in the reactor in which a low melt index copolymer is made (1) the alpha-olefin is present in a ratio of from 0.01 to 0.4 mol of alpha-olefin per mol of ethylene; and (2) optionally, hydrogen is present in a ratio of from 0.001 to 0.3 mol of hydrogen per mol of ethylene; and (e) in the reactor in which a high melt index polymer is made: (1) optionally, alpha-olefin is present in a ratio of from 0.005 to 0.6 mol of alpha-olefin per mol of ethylene; and (2) optionally, hydrogen is present in a ratio of from 0.001 to 3 mols of hydrogen per mol of ethylene. h
