Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an organophosphorus sulfonate ligand that can be used in a catalyst precursor for α-olefin oligomerization by allowing the ligand to have a specific naphthalene ring. SOLUTION: This organophosphorus sulfonate ligand bears at least one of naphthalene ring that has two substituents, a trivalent phosphorus atom and a SO3 M group (M is H, an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, NR4 , PR4 ; R is H, a 1-15C hydrocarbyl) individually in different benzene nuclei from each other and in the adjacent positions to each other. The use of this organophosphorus sulfonate ligand enables economical oligomerization of ethylene to an α-olefin or co-oligomerization of ethylene and propylene to an α-olefin with higher catalyst activity in higher selectivity than those of conventionally used catalysts.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject ligand containing a trivalent phosphorus atom bound to a surfonic acid (salt) group through a group having a specific structure, useful for use on the precursor of a catalyst for the oligomerization of an '- olefin, and given the highly active and highly selective catalyst. SOLUTION: This organic phosphosulfonate ligand has a trivalent phosphorus atom bound to a group of the formula: SO3 M (M is H, an alkali metal, etc.,) through a group of formula I [A is oxygen atom, NH, etc.; R ,R3 are each H, a (non)substituted 1-6C hydrocarbyl; (x) is 0, 1; (y) is 1-3]. The ligand includes an alkylene-phosphinosulfonate of formula II [R , R are each H, a (non) substituted 1-20C hydrocarbyl]. The alkylene-phosphinosultonate is obtained e.g. by reacting a haloalkane sulfonate salt such as 2-chloroethanesulfonic acid with a phosphide.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject containing a naphthalene ring having a trivalent phosphorus atom and a sulfonic acid (salt) group, useful for use in the precursor of a catalyst for the oligomerization of an α-olefin, and giving the highly active and highly selectivity catalyst. SOLUTION: This organic phosphosulfonate ligand contains a naphthalene ring which has a trivalent phosphorus atom and a SO3 M group (M is H, an alkali metal, etc.,) at the mutually adjacent substitution positions on the same benzene uncleus of the naphthalene ring. The ligand is preferably an alkali metal salt, concretely a ligand of the formula. The above-described oligomerization catalyst is preferably obtained by reacting a transition metal such as nickel with a catalyst-activating agent such as sodium borohydride and the ligand.

Abstract: A process for the transvinylation of a vinyl derivative of a Bronsted acid with a different Bronsted acid which comprises providing a liquid phase mixture containing said vinyl derivative and said Bronsted acid in the presence of a ruthenium compound at a temperature at which transvinylation occurs and recovering as a product of transvinylation the vinyl derivative of the different Bronsted acid. The process is most favorably employed using carboxylic acids to make vinyl esters of carboxylic acids.

Abstract: OLIGOMERIZATION TO ALPHA-OLEFINS of the Invention An oligomerization or cooligomerization process comprising passing ethylene or a mixture of ethylene and propylene in contact with a catalyst, in the liquid phase, said catalyst comprising the reaction product of (i) a transition metal compound wherein the transition metal is selected from the group consisting of nickel, chromium, cobalt, iron, and copper, and mixtures thereof; (ii) in the event that (a) the transition metal is not in the oxidation state of 0 or (b) the transition metal compound does not have a hydride or an alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, or aryl group bonded to the transition metal, a catalyst activator consisting of a compound capable of transferring a hydride or an alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, or aryl group from itself to the transition metal/ligand (hereinafter defined) complex formed by the reaction of the transition metal compound with the ligand and bonding the group to the transition metal, said activator being present in a sufficient amount to activate the catalyst; and (iii) at least one organophosphorus sulfonate ligand containing (a) at least one benzene ring having a trivalent phosphorus atom located at one position on the benzene ring and an SO3M group located at a position on the benzene ring ortho thereto, or at least one benzene ring having a trivalent phosphorus atom connected through a methylene group to a first position on the benzene ring and an SO3M group connected through a methylene group to a second position on the benzene ring ortho to the first position, or at least one bridging or fused aromatic ring system having a trivalent phosphorus atom and an SO3M group, each located on a different aromatic ring in the system at substituent positions adjacent to one another, or at least one aromatic ring, other than a benzene ring, or heteroaromatic ring, each ring having a trivalent phosphorus atom and an SO3M group located at substituent positions adjacent to one another, wherein M is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, and NR4 and PR4 wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl radical having 1 to 15 carbon atoms and each R can be alike or different or (b) a trivalent phosphorus atom connected through a group having the formula to an SO3M group wherein A is an oxygen atom, an NH radical, or an NR radical; R2 and R3 are hydrogen atoms or a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl radical having 1 to 6 carbon atoms and can be alike or different; x is an integer 0 or 1; y is an integer from 1 to 3: and R and M are as defined above.
