Abstract:
Cationic siloxanes in the liquid phase of fire extinguishing foams, with or without other materials as foam promoters, stabilizers or special purpose additives, provide rapid extinguishment of flames, are capable of forming vapor-securing films over burning hydrocarbon liquids to prevent reignition upon foam rupture or disintegration and impart unique elastic properties useful in producing high expansion foams and in producing low expansion foams for sprinkler systems.
Abstract:
Organosilicone polymers are provided containing siliconcontaining units A, B and C, where A is SiO4/2, B is a monofunctional siloxy unit in which silicon is bonded to at least one organic moiety bearing an organic-capped poly(oxyalkylene) chain, and C is a monofunctional trihydrocarbylsiloxy unit, and in which there are from about 0.75 to about 2 moles of A, and from about 0.1 to about 1 mole of C, per mole of B. The polymers are useful as surfactants and find particular application in the manufacture of flexible polyester urethane cellular products, including flame-retarded foams.
Abstract:
A process for producing high resilience polyether urethane foam using a cyanoalkyl modified siloxane fluid; the foams derived therefrom; a solvent-solution of said siloxane; and cyanoalkyl modified siloxane fluids per se.
Abstract:
Partially crosslinked siloxane-polyoxyalkylene block copolymer compositions having siloxane blocks linked to polyoxyalkylene blocks by silicon to oxygen to carbon (*SiOC*) linkages, the carbon of each said linkage being bonded only to the oxygen of said linkage, hydrogen and carbon. The siloxane blocks are comprised of siloxane units each having one to three monovalent hydrocarbon groups bonded to the silicon thereof and have an average of at least two valences of silicon per siloxane block combined in said linkages. A portion of the polyoxyalkylene blocks comprise oxyalkylene units and are crosslinking blocks having at least two valences of carbon per polyoxyalkylene block combined in said linkages joining separate siloxane blocks. The total of valences of silicon, combined in said linkages, of an average siloxane block plus the valences of carbon, combined in said linkages, of an average cross-linking polyoxyalkylene block is at least five. A portion of said polyoxyalkylene blocks are noncrosslinking or branching blocks having only one valence of carbon per block combined in said linkages, comprise oxyalkylene units and contain at least one of the groups of hydroxy, -OR, OOCNHR, and -OOCR groups in which R is monovalent hydrocarbon having 1 to 18 carbon atoms. The ratio of the number of polyoxyalkylene blocks to said siloxane blocks is 3:1 to 100:1 and the average number of silicon valences per average siloxane block combined with said polyoxyalkylene blocks times the weight percentage of said siloxane blocks in the composition is 20 to 150.
Abstract:
Organosilicone polymers are provided which comprise polysiloxane-polyoxyalkylene block copolymers wherein the polysiloxane blocks are trialkylsiloxy-endblocked and contain reoccurring difunctional dialkylsiloxy monomeric units in combination with reoccurring difunctional cyanoalkyl-alkylsiloxy or cyanoalkoxyalkylsiloxy monomeric units, the mol ratio of the dialkylsiloxy units to the cyano-substituted siloxy units being about 10-200:3-100, and wherein the polysiloxane and polyoxyalkylene blocks are joined through an Si-C or an Si-O-C linkage, and from about 20 to about 65 weight per cent of the oxyalkylene units of the polyoxyalkylene blocks are constituted of oxyethylene units. The block copolymers of the invention are effective stabilizers of flexible polyether polyolbased polyurethane foams and offer particular advantage in the formation of flame-retarded foams. Also provided is a particular class of cyano-substituted polyalkylsiloxane hydrides which are useful in the preparation of the aforesaid block copolymers.
