Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silver solder alloy improved in wettability. SOLUTION: The silver solder alloy consists substantially of approximately 52.25-approximately 57.0 wt.% silver, approximately 38.95-approximately 43.0 wt.% copper, approximately 0.5-approximately 5.5 wt.%, preferably approximately 1.0-approximately 5.5 wt.% manganese, and approximately 2.5 wt.% or less, preferably approximately 1.5-approximately 2.5 wt.% nickel. The silver solder alloy can contain other microelement of 0.15 wt.% in total.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively weld-repair an airfoil 52 made of a nickel-based superalloy which is hardly weld-repaired. SOLUTION: A method for weld-repairing an airfoil 52 made of a nickel-based superalloy includes a step of machining the surface of the airfoil 52 into a relatively smooth surface, and removing a damaged portion of the airfoil 52. Next, a powder alloy such as IN-100 is fed to plasma arc welding equipment. A plurality of weld beads 60, 62, 64, 66 are deposited along the damaged portion of the airfoil 52 by the continuous bi-directional movements 70, 72 of the welding equipment so as to eliminate abrupt thermal transients at an end of the weld, and the thermal stresses to cause cracking in susceptible alloy such as IN-100 is reduced thereby. Abstract: A method of repairing a rotor blade, for example on an integrally bladed rotor, includes preparing a surface on a damaged area of the blade. The blade has first and second airfoil surfaces adjoining the prepared surface that are spaced apart a distance. An edge of a patch abuts the prepared surface to provide a weld interface defining a welding plane. First and second cover sheets respectively overlap the first and second airfoil surfaces. The first and second cover sheets adjoin the edge and the first and second airfoil surfaces. The blade, patch and first and second cover sheets are welded along the welding plane providing a welded joint at the weld interface. The first and second cover sheets are substantially unsecured to the first and second airfoil surfaces subsequent to the welding operation.

Abstract: A method for weld repairing airfoils made from nickel based super alloy material is provided. The method includes removing a damaged portion of the airfoil by machining the airfoil to a relatively smooth surface. Powdered alloy material, such as IN-100 material is then fed to a plasma arc welding device. A plurality of weld beads are deposited along the damaged portion of the airfoil in a continuous bi-directional pattern by the welding device to eliminate abrupt thermal transients at the ends of the weld, thereby reducing the thermal stresses that cause cracking in susceptible alloys such as IN- 100.
