Abstract:
An article (104;140) has an airfoil (100). The airfoil has a leading edge (114), a trailing (116) edge, a pressure side (118), and a suction side (120) and the airfoil extends from a first end (110) to a tip (112). The article comprises an aluminum alloy or titanium alloy substrate (352) and a coating at the tip. The coating comprises a cold sprayed nickel or cobalt matrix (352) and an abrasive (354).
Abstract:
A novel manufacturing method for functionally graded component includes a cold sprayed additive manufactured core material and a cold sprayed additive manufactured set of teeth around said core made from another material.
Abstract:
A method of forming a leading edge protection component includes depositing particles using a cold spray process on a mandrel to form a leading edge protection component; and removing the leading edge protection structure from the mandrel. The leading edge protection can be formed in one or more pieces and involve using one or more mandrels.
Abstract:
An erosion resistant and hydrophobic article includes a core that has a first hardness and a surface on the core. The surface includes a plurality of geometric features that have a second, greater hardness. The geometric features define a surface porosity by area percent and a corresponding surface solidity by area percent. The surface includes a ratio of the surface solidity divided by the surface porosity that is 1.8 or greater. The geometric features and the ratio establish the surface to be hydrophobic, and the second, greater hardness and the ratio establish an erosion rate of the surface that is equal to or less than an erosion rate of the core under identical erosion conditions.
Abstract:
A component may be self-monitoring having a sensor assembly located on a surface of a substrate and covered by an encapsulating layer additively manufactured over the sensor assembly and thereby bonded to the substrate. The sensor may be wireless, self-powered, and embedded into the substrate such that it is unobtrusive and may not limit the performance or function of the component.
Abstract:
A manufacturing process is provided in which material is supported within a chamber. This material includes a plurality of discrete metal particles and ceramic disposed between at least some of the metal particles. At least a portion of the material is solidified together using an additive manufacturing system to form an object.
Abstract:
A manufacturing process is provided. During this process, material is solidified together within a chamber to form an object using an additive manufacturing device. At least a portion of the solidified material is conditioned within the chamber using a material conditioning device.
Abstract:
A portable gas heater includes a housing, a pressure vessel arranged in the housing, a layer of thermal insulation disposed on an interior wall of the pressure vessel, a heating element arranged within the layer of thermal insulation, and a gas diffuser arranged upstream from the heating element. A cold spray system including the portable gas heater and a method of heating gas are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A feedstock for an additive manufacturing process includes a pre-ceramic polymer intermixed with a base material. A method of additive manufacturing includes melting and pyrolizing a feedstock containing metal and a pre-ceramic polymer. An article of manufacture includes an additive manufacturing component including a pyrolized feedstock.
Abstract:
Material is provided for forming a part using a manufacturing system. The material includes a plurality of discrete particles. Each of the particles includes a metal powder core encapsulated by a non-metal coating. At least the cores of the particles are adapted to be solidified together by the manufacturing system to form the part.
