Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a general-purpose remote control method having an improved user interface which simplifies an operation of general-purpose remote control and a remote operation of household equipments in a strict meaning. SOLUTION: A readable medium has a command for displaying informations to a plurality of users of a hand-held equipment 1150, and steps executed by the command include the followings. That is, the steps comprise a step by which each user defines a list of their favorite channels and a step which receives an input for identifying the users of the hand-held equipment 1150, responds to it and displays the list corresponding to the favorite channels to the users. The users interact with the list by executing the steps, and the readable medium is provided to the hand-held equipment for transmitting command codes to the household equipments for the purpose of tuning the household equipments 1120, 1122 and 1124 to a channel expressed in the list of the favorite channels. Abstract:
A controlling device having a feature for toggling between various device mode states. The device mode state toggle feature may be implemented as a key which is preferably located with the function keys thus being spaced from the top of the controlling device. The device mode state toggle feature may be used to sequentially toggle between all device mode states of the controlling device, to toggle between a currently selected device mode state and a previously selected device mode state of the controlling device, to toggle between device mode states that have been designated by a user of the controlling device, etc. An indicia, such as a LED, key illumination, color, sound, or the like, may be utilized to provide an indication to the user as to which device mode state the controlling device is placed into when the device mode state toggle feature is activated.
Abstract:
A user interface (12) for displaying graphical operational mode information to a user of a universal remote control (10). The user interface (12) displays to the user in a circular queue arrangement iconic representations of every hom e appliance, which the universal remote control (10) is setup to control. The user may then interact with the user interface (12) to select an iconic representation of the one of the home appliances, which the user desires to control. In response to this selection, the user interface (12) will display the iconic representation of the home appliances such that the iconic representation of the home appliance indicated by the user is moved to a predetermined position in the circular queue arrangement relative to the remaining iconic representations and/or is given an appearance distinct from the appearance of the remaining iconic representations within the circular queue arrangement. In this manner, the user interface (12) indicates to the user the current operational mode of the universal remote control(10).
Abstract:
A control device (100a) using a light source energy (320), such as light energy, to provide the controlling device with a use interface having multiple, different visual appearance.

Abstract:
An electronic program system comprises a program schedule, which is presentable in a display as a grid of two-dimensionally arranged cells with a program identifier being displayed in each of the cells, the grid having a plurality of channels listed in a first dimension and time listed in a second dimension of which a portion of the entirety of the grid is displayable in the display. A user may interact with the electronic program guide (using sliders 2/3, arrows 6, or icon 8) to change the program schedule information that is displayed and/or to transmit one or more command codes to a target appliance.
