Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a general-purpose remote control method having an improved user interface which simplifies an operation of general-purpose remote control and a remote operation of household equipments in a strict meaning. SOLUTION: A readable medium has a command for displaying informations to a plurality of users of a hand-held equipment 1150, and steps executed by the command include the followings. That is, the steps comprise a step by which each user defines a list of their favorite channels and a step which receives an input for identifying the users of the hand-held equipment 1150, responds to it and displays the list corresponding to the favorite channels to the users. The users interact with the list by executing the steps, and the readable medium is provided to the hand-held equipment for transmitting command codes to the household equipments for the purpose of tuning the household equipments 1120, 1122 and 1124 to a channel expressed in the list of the favorite channels. Abstract:
A user interface (12) for displaying graphical operational mode information to a user of a universal remote control (10). The user interface (12) displays to the user in a circular queue arrangement iconic representations of every home appliance, which the universal remote control (10) is setup to control. The user may then interact with the user interface (12) to select an iconic representation of the one of the home appliances, which the user desires to control. In response to this selection, the user interface (12) will display the iconic representation of the home appliances such that the iconic representation of the home appliance indicated by the user is moved to a predetermined position in the circular queue arrangement relative to the remaining iconic representations and/or is given an appearance distinct from the appearance of the remaining iconic representations within the circular queue arrangement. In this manner, the user interface (12) indicates to the user the current operational mode of the universal remote control(10).
Abstract:
A controlling device (Fig. 3), such as a remote control (100a) uses visual (130), audio, and/or tactile cues in the form of color, patterns, shapes, sounds, vibrations, etc., to indicate relationships. Relationships may be between a function key (134a-134f) and an intended target appliance for a command transmitted in response to activation of the function key, a user and the controlling device, or a room and the controlling device.
Abstract:
A system and methods for facilitation of user interactions with an electronic device. A number of user interface methods are described and may be used alone or in combination with one another to present an enhanced interface to a user. A method of providing user interaction using a compact status indicator is described. A method for providing a virtual scroll wheel to a user for interaction with content sets is described. A method for allowing a user to dynamically modify a scalable user interface is described. A method for providing gesture based input to a user via a virtual gesture pad is described. A method of providing an interactive graphic search query interface is described. A method for indicating and selecting available content type is described.
Abstract:
An electronic program system comprises a program schedule, which is presentable in a display as a grid of two-dimensionally arranged cells with a program identifier being displayed in each of the cells, the grid having a plurality of channels listed in a first dimension and time listed in a second dimension of which a portion of the entirety of the grid is displayable in the display. A user may interact with the electronic program guide (using sliders 2/3, arrows 6, or icon 8) to change the program schedule information that is displayed and/or to transmit one or more command codes to a target appliance.
Abstract:
A hand-held electronic device (1150) having a remote control application user interface that functions to display operational mode information to a user. The graphical user interface may be used, for example, to adjust the behavior of the readable media to more closely match the region in which it is operated, to setup the remote control application to control appliances for one or more users in one or more rooms, to perform activities, and to access favourites. The remote control application is also adapted to be upgradeable. Furthermore, the remote control application provides for the sharing of operational mode information.
Abstract:
A system and method for displaying an electronic program guide ("EPG"), the EPG allowing for the controlling of recording functionality of an appliance and/or playing of media. The displayable EPG includes a listing of playable media from which the user may select a program of interest for recording or playing. The EPG may also include a display of prior recorded media for playing. Options may be presented to allow for a selection of a rendering device on which selected media is to be played.
Abstract:
A system and method for setting up a user interface of a remote control. The remote control displays a logical group of function keys the activation of which will cause the remote control to transmit a command to a target device and a plurality of indicators representative of devices. A user input functions to select one of the plurality of indicators and the device represented by the selected indicator is assigned as the target device for the logical group of function keys.
